Lt. Morales is the best sustain healer in the game but because she’s weak against coordinated focus fire she’s not considered a top tier pick in competition. However, in Game 2 of the Group Stages against X Team, MVP Black’s Merryday, widely considered the best support in the world, displayed an innovative use of Medivac "micro-jumps".
By using Medicvac to escape focus fire, Merryday effectively addresses the hero's critical weakness and potentially establishes her as a viable support in competitive play.
A play maker
This tactic was put on impressive display around the 13 minute mark during an Immortal phase; X Team was getting hammered while fighting foolishly underneath MVP Black’s immortal. Merryday was about to be focused by three members of X Team when he did a micro-jump that got him out of danger and into position for a killing shot on the enemy Greymane.
Overall, Merryday’s medivac play was phenomenal, often allowing MVP Black to further punish the enemy with team global mobility after a team fight victory. For example, after they won the 2nd Immortal Phase; MVP Black spread out to clear lanes, retreated back to base to replenish, and then Medivac’d up to the top lane to make a strong push with the Immortal that took out the top fort.
Before members of X Team could either catch their breath or respawn, MVP Black had already medivac’d down to the bot lane to take the Kazra camp. Post level 10, X Team were constantly backpedaling as they failed to handle the global presence of Merryday’s medivac play.
The talent build
Merryday’s talent build for Lt. Morales reveals a few nuances in how he accentuates her role as a support. His lvl 1 talent, Feedback Loop, shows how critical mana is to Lt. Morales, prioritizing it over the self preservation talent, Safeguard. At lvl 4 and 16, Merryday's upgrades to Displacement Grenade with Upgraded Ballistics and Second Opinion shows how much he values the impact and frequency of Her CC and peeling capabilities.
In an interview with MVP Black’s Team Captain, Sake, he stated that it was during scrims when they determined that Lt. Morales was actually a viable pick and that the Group Stage was a good place to bring the strat out. He also hinted at other tricks MVP Black has up their sleeves and we are eagerly waiting to watch as the reigning world champions defend their title with innovations like Merryday's Medivac micro-jumps.
