Favorites fall at Bucharest day one

KT Rolster's Flash's elimination was no doubt among the surprises of DH Bucharest yesterday

DreamHack Bucharest 2013 is ready for its playoffs as the tournament is down to its final sixteen.

The final group stage trimming of the player pool took not one or two lives of notable players, however. Almost every foreigner - with the sole exceptions of Nerchio and Elfi - was eliminated, including TLO, Snute, Grubby, Sjow and HuK. Yet the high profile eliminations did not end with the death of the westerners and many a strong Korean joined them before the day was over. If the ousting of players like Symbol, Oz, Crank, Ryung and Heart would usually not be considered the upset of the tournament, that was not the case with KT's own Ultimate Weapon, Flash.

Inarguably amongst the favorites to make playoffs, Flash led his first appearance on European soil to Ro32 elimination as he was placed in one of the only two all-Korean groups. The "God" ultimately finished third in his pool, leaving the playoffs to MMA and YuGiOh, winning but a single series against Ryung.

With the top 16 now set, DreamHack Bucharest will enter its playoffs stage in a few minutes. HerO vs Innovation and StarDust vs Elfi will be the opening matches to mark the start of the final mile to the $9,240 first place prize.
