The Last Call underdog prevailed over Austin “SilentStorm” Li in the finals to put an end to the qualifiers for Worlds.
This Saturday, the Last Call Invitational for the Americas went according to nobody’s predictions. In a shocking twist, the two tournament favorites from Luminosity Gaming Muzahidul “Muzzy” Islam and Frank “Fr0zen” Zhang – the latter of who was voted the most likely winner of the tournament by the GosuCommunity – both endured round one eliminations, winning only three games between them.
The final showdown came down to Celestial’s SilentStorm and Hao “Bbgungun” Li, who played his first major HCT tournament this weekend. Bbgungun’s aggressive start on the back of DiscardLock and Secrets Hunter put him up by a pair, but was equalized in the next two games by the Canadian. The scoreboard eventually stopped at 4-2 for the champion after the staple Yogg Druid and Tempo Mage decks put an end to the series in two mirror matches.
With this, the line-up for the World Championship is complete and the biggest tournament of the year is scheduled to start in just under ten days with the group stage matches. These are the names we’ll be watching compete for $1 million:
