The Swedish-based team will dip its toe into the world of CCG’s by signing a yet to be revealed roster.
Founded in April 2013 by Evil Geniuses CEO Alex Garfield after picking up the rising stars of the all-Swedish Dota team NoTidehunter, Alliance are at present day one of the most successful brands in esports. Hosting a number of rosters in differet esports disciplines, most notably Dota 2, but also including StarCraft 2, League of Legends and Fighting Games, Alliance’s winnings are close to $3.4 million, the majority of which come from winning Dota’s most prestigious tournament – The International – in 2013.
Very soon, Alliance will also reveal their first ever Hearthstone roster. The expansion into Blizzard’s award-winning card game comes as part of Alliance’s rebranding, which will also include a Super Smash Melee roster to be revealed later down the line.
There hasn’t been even a hint about who Alliance’s Hearthstone player or players will be, but the scene is rish on free agents at this point. Natus Vincere recently released all four of their players, making the quartet of Sebastian “Xixo” Bentert, Sebastian “Ostkaka” Engwall, Frederik “Hoej” Nielsen and Jung-Soo “Surrender” Kim some of the most sought after players in the game. Other notable team-less names include PGL runner-up Stanislav Cifka, who’s been without a team since he parted ways with Luminosity Gaming in November last year, and Truesilver Championship winner Jan “Ekop” Palys who recently parted ways with Cloud9.
Finally, considering Alliance’s strong ties with Swedish players and looking how Dota captain Jonathan “Loda” Berg went for an all-Swedish line-up for their new team, one Jon “Orange” Westberg is also a prime suspect to appear on Alliance’s wall of players. Orange parted ways with his former team Archon as it moved away from competitive Hearthstone and has been looking for a new org ever since.
