The Hong Kong player bested Taren in the grand finals, denying him repeat World Championship appearances.

Composed almost exclusively of lesser known players, the Americas Summer Championship happened over the weekend, with the usual $80,000 and the valued Blizzcon seed as prizes. Ultimately, it was Edwin “HotMEOWTH” Cook who defeated the most established player at the venue – 2014 World Championship finalist Jeffrey “Tarei” Liu – in seven games to deny the American a second appearance at Hearthstone’s crown event and punch his ticket to the world finals.

HotMEOWTH’s road to the gold included besting David “Justsaiyan” Shan and Christopher “Phonetap” Huynh in the preliminaries last month before eliminating Jerome “Monsanto” Faucher and Manny “Dude7597” Eckert on his way to championship triumph.

The tournament itself saw few to none metagame surprises, with the full deck line-ups of the players available here. Zoo, Yogg Druid and Aggro Shaman remained as the dominant decks in the Bo7 Conquest format, with the finals coming down to a Yogg Druid mirror face-off to decide the series in HotMEOWTH’s favor.

HotMEOWTH is the third and final champion of the Americas region, joining Will “Amnesiac” Barton and Julien “Cydonia” Perrault in the $1,000,000 World Championship. The Last Call qualifiers in mid-October will complete the region’s line-up in the championship.
