Xixo wins second LAN championship at StarSeries Season 2

The Natus Vincere player came from the losers bracket in the grand finals to defeat local Chinese representative Xieshuai 4:2 and take the trophy back to Europe.

The first edition of the StarLadder i-League collaboration ended with the triumph of China. Despite a few critical misplays, Yolo Miracle’s (now eStar) Robin managed to take it home for his country, one of the rare tournament victories China has had over the west.

This weekend, as the StarSeries Season 2 finals were scheduled to be played, China got very close to a repeat success. Even though the deck was once against stacked against the Chinese with two players against west’s six, one Xie?huai narrowly defeated Ole “Naiman” Batyrbekov and Sebastian “Xixo” Bentert in the playoffs to be the first to reach the grand finals.

Xixo, who had already beaten XieShuai in the group stage, had to fight through the losers bracket and eliminate EU Winter runner-up Arte “DrHippi” Kravets to earn a chance at redemption. And redeem himself he did. Although XieShuai showed no signs of backing down and was seemingly ready to take the German for the second time in a row, the grand finals ended in game six as Xixo put a full stop to the match and hoisted the StarSeries Season 2 trophy.

This is the second LAN championship for the German after his gold at Esports Arena Invitational last year, who’s also been holding the #1 in the GosuRankings for couple of weeks after leaving fellow countryman Jan “SuperJJ” Janssen trailing.
