See who’s still drawing after Day 1 of the Spring Championship Preliminaries

ThijsNL, AKAWonder and Crane333 are among the notable names holding out for a place in the HCT Spring Championships, whilst other season veterans fight it out in the losers’ bracket.

The preliminary rounds of the 2016 Hearthstone World Championships next chapter are underway, and with day one wrapped up, we’re readying for some surprising (and not-so-surprising) matchups. Within the eight players who’ve fought to the finals of their respective winners bracket, we’ve got some of the biggest emerging names in the game right now; including Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk, and the ESL Legendary series champion Esteban “AKAWonder” Serrano.

In the underside of the tournament, last year’s World Champion Ostkaka, StanCifka and recent Virtus.Pro signee Faramir are all aiming for a chance at redemption. There were also plenty of notable participants who weren’t able to edge their way out the Round of 64, including Kolento, Gaara and the winner of the Hearthstone Winter Championship, Naiman.

Whilst it would be hard to do a full rundown of notable moments in the tournament thus far, we’d be completely remiss in mentioning the insane bit of RNG that the ‘never lucky’ Thijs benefitted from in his match against Dodje. After [card]Faceless Manipulator[/card] created a copy of his opponent’s [card]Ysera[/card], Thijs saw the ultimate benefit of your minion being [card]Mulch[/card]ed when the completely random card added to his hand turned out to be…another Ysera.
