British talent Ness wins Insomnia Truesilver Championship

Following a tense Grand Finals, Ness takes home $10,000 and 15 HCT points.

Last weekend the Insomnia67 Truesilver Championships concluded, having one of the most talent-stacked line-ups of the year so far. Players such as Thijs "ThijsNL" Molendijk, James "Firebat" Kostesich and Stanislav "StanCifka" Cifka are just a few of the many well-known players that participated. After strong competition in the Swiss round and group stages, only the 8 best players were left in a Bo5, single elimination format.

To start of the top 8, Ness had to face German powerhouse Adrian "Lifecoach" Koy, who was the only player from his team G2 to make it to this stage. Keeping his cool as much as possible, Ness sent Lifecoach on his way home. In the semi-finals a lesser known opponent awaited Ness, but it wasn't one to be underestimated. C4mlann had not only defeated the EU Winter Championship-qualified Pokrovac, but in the group stages managed to defeat Na'Vi's Xixo, and the earlier mentioned ThijsNL. Dropping only one game, Ness defeated the German and advanced to the finals.

The last and final obstacle standing in the way of Ness' championship was Team Liquid's David "Dog" Caero, who had brought an unusual but strong line-up. The game went back and forth, with both players giving away turns, but also with some plays of great insight. It all came down to Dog's Mage versus Ness' Priest. Both players could have made arguably better plays, but in the end Dog was down to 4 health, but had card and board advantage over Ness. Ness, who had upgraded his hero power using [card]Justicar Trueheart[/card], was praying to find his [card]Auchenai Soulpriest[/card] to seal the deal, as the game slipped away from him with every turn. Resulting the draw from a [card]Power Word: Shield[/card] he finally managed to deal the final 4 damage to Dog, and take the title.

With the title Ness not only took home $10,000, was also awarded 15 HCT points. Judging by last season, this almost certainly is enough to qualify for the Spring Preliminaries, to be held in May.
