Thijs, Ostkaka, Hoej and Maverick form the group of death at the EU Championship

The group seeding has pitted four of the best players on the continent against each other, and only two can make it out.

The European Championship for Blizzcon is mere days away. This weekend, the eight players who made it through the online round will compete in Prague not just for money, but also four seeds to the World Championship stage.

For the contenders in Group A, the opening day will be no picnic. Considered to be at the very top tier, Sebastian “Ostkaka” Engwall, Michael “Maverick” Looze, Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk and Frederik “Hoej” Nielsen will share the same pool, which means half of them won’t make it to Blizzcon.

This is particularly unlucky for the Na`Vi players who will have to face each other in the opening match, according to a tweet by Hoej himself, which means one Na`Vi player will be one more loss away from elimination. Should the yellow jackets survive the Group A thriller, however, they will be tied with Team Celestial for the most representatives at the World Championship.

In Group B, the fight will include Adrian “Lifecoach” Koy, Pavel “Pavel” Beltyukov, Yevgeniy “Neirea” Shumilin and Gerardo “Gera” Di Pietro. The Nihilum marquee is coming to Prague as one of the heavy favorites and fans and experts look to him as the one to crush the group. Nonetheless, both Neirea and Pavel hav shown strong results recently, while Gera is a student of team Powned. It, the same Italian squad that sent Riccardo “Kaor” Giammanco to the quarter finals of last year’s championship.

There’s no set schedule for the matches yet, but the group stage is expected to take the majority of the Saturday.
