Orange takes third gold at Abios Grand Tournament

The young Swede pocketed $2,500 after a months-long cold streak.

At the start of 2015, Jon “Orange” Westberg was among the players to watch. Within one month, the Swede reigned supreme over two $20k+ tournaments, conquering ESL Legendary Series Katowice in March and SeatStory Cup III in April. During that period, he also made the jump from team Darkstar to Amaz’ Archon.

Although his early 2015 results set Orange up for success, what followed instead were months of unconvincing performances. Since May, Orange has been struggling to break the 40% win-rate mark, scoring a career low of 33,3% in May and being inactive for the entire August.

Last night, the Swede got back on the winning track. As one of the 16 invites to the Abios Grand Tournament invitational, Orange was exactly four Bo5’s away from his third gold medal. Over the weekend, he went on to do exactly that, starting his run with 3-1 victories over German duo Petar “Gaara” Stevanovic and Jan “Ekop” Palys and a pair of flawless wins towards the end of the tournament: One against team-mate James “Firebat” Kostesich and another against Nihilum’s Dima “Rdu” Radu.

Orange's reward for his victorious run is half of the $5,000 prize pool, leaving Rdu with $1,500 and his third silver medal of this year, following the Blackrock Mountain Invitational and Xfinity Invitational in April.
