Zalae is the first grand finalist of the GEICO Brawl #2 challenge [VODs inside]

It’s “Clash of the Keywords” night at the GEICO party as all decks had to contain the same keyword across their minions.

Paul “Zalae” Nemeth is closer to his third tournament victory. After winning the BRM Launch Invitational in April and then the WCA Americas Pro Qualifier in June, the former Magic: The Gathering player will compete in the grand finals of the GEICO Summer Brawl against an opponent still unknown.

The first GEICO Brawl was held in July and featured rather complex deckbuilding rules where each card’s mana cost, attack, health or effect text had to have at least two factors of 15. For their second edition, the organizers went for a simpler challenge: all the minions in a certain deck must have the same keyword.

For Zalae, the line-up consisted of deathrattle Hunter, battlecry Paladin and taunt Druid. The Archon player easily sliced through Jeffrey “Sjow” Brusi but Hayun “Eloise” Tang gave him a tougher fight in the semi final, bringing the series to full five games before Zalae would advance forward.

The bottom half of the bracket will be played out tonight with players like Kaldi, Hoej, StrifeCro and Amaz still in the tournament. The best out of those four will play Zalae for the $2,000 first place prize.
