Brian Kibler wins the Archon ”Master of duels” award

With a final score of 13-4 in the ATLC Phase 1, Kibler is assured to win the prestigious award and 5000 USD

The first day of the final week of the Archon team league championship is ongoing, and while the winners won't be decided until the finals later in september, there is already one important thing that has been decided.

In the final week, Value Town defeated Tempostorm 6-2, in what can be approximated as a sweep after they won 6 matches in a row after starting out 0-2. This result puts Brian Kibler at a final score of 13-4 after phase 1. Though there are still matches to be played in phase 1, there is no scenario where any player can match this score.

This earns Kibler the “Master of Duels” award, which is rewarded to the player with the highest win ratio after phase 1. All the other requirements have been met as Value Town have also qualified directly for the live finale. The award also comes with a prize of 5000 dollars.

Kibler was seen as a favorite for the award for quite a while, as he started this tournament with an 8-0 streak after 4 weeks putting him securely in the lead. Losses against Team Archon and Team Liquid evened the score up somewhat but even so, he was still in a solid lead entering the final week and the question was if he could continue to dominate against Tempo Storm.

He started off getting a loss in the hunter mirror against Gaara, but Hyped getting benched after 2 losses gave Kibler's priest deck a pristine opportunity purely in favorable matchups, and it handed a brutal loss to Eloise's aggressive paladin deck and Kibler's hunter would later follow up with a solid win against Gaara's Shaman. This 2-1 score was enough to maintain the unreachable lead for the Master of Duels award.

Kibler and team Value Town will return to compete in the finals of the ATLC, which happens in the Archon team house in the middle of September.
