EU WCA Pro Qualifiers held this week at Gamescom

This week is a week many gamers from all over the world have been looking forward to. Apart from the fact that The International 5 is being held (see our Dota 2 section), the major game event Gamescom takes place in Cologne, Germany. At this event many studios present their newest line of games, expansions to already existing games or shed light on experimental indie games. With big company names such as Microsoft, Bandai Namco and of course Blizzard and many others, gaming enthusiasts have all their heart desires at the venue. And, of course, there will be Hearthstone as well.

First of all, Blizzard is revealing more content of the next expansion: The Grand Tournament. They will do so in the form of showmatches, much like the ones we saw at the announcement of the expansion. Next to that, there are still the scheduled reveals, with tomorrow the class legendaries of both Rogue and Druid. If we may believe Ben Brode, the Druid legendary will get us really excited, so the expectations are high. A full overview of the cards that have been released already can be found here.

Secondly, the World Cyber Arena is holding their European Pro Qualifiers matches at Gamescom. After an online pre-qualifier, only four players remain.  These players will battle for one of the three available tickets to the WCA finals in China, in which qualified players from all over the world will compete. The four European players are Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk, Adrian “Lifecoach” Koy, Stanislav “StanCifka” and Alexander “Kolento” Malsh. Over the course of three days they will face each other in a Round Robin Bo5 tournament. After this the semi finals are held on Thursday, followed on Friday by a consolation final (fight for 3rd place) and the Grand Final. Not only do the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed players win a ticket to China, they will also receive €7,000, €3,000 and €1,500 respectively. As harsh as it may be, the player who ends 4th will return home completely empty-handed.

Many events at Gamescom, including the Hearthstone content mentioned above, will be brought to you firsthand by GosuGamers.
