New Rogue card revealed: Poisoned Blade

Rogues are getting a brand new weapon to play with, and it has the potential to be fantastic.

Shortly after the The Grand Tournament reveal stream, a Latin American tournament called Copa America revealed on their stream the sixteenth card of the TGT set. [card]Poisoned Blade[/card] is a 1/3 weapon for 4 mana, which gets +1 attack whenever the hero power is used.

The effect is similar to what Rogue’s hero power in alpha used to do, i.e. equip a 1/2 weapon or give it +1 attack if there’s one equipped already. This was also the reason why Rogue was one of the most powerful classes in the earliest days of Hearthstone, before they got slashed down.

Just by looking at [card]Poisoned Blade[/card], however, it’s hard to imagine it seeing a lot of play, at least before the rest of the set is revealed. 1/3 for 4 mana doesn’t really fit the modern Rogue builds, as it’s too slow and not too impactful. To become powerful, Poisoned Blade needs constant 2-mana injections which would lead to a loss of tempo most of the time. Starting at one attack, Poisoned Blade will likely not be able to kill any 4-drop and if it gets buffed and attacks each turn, it would deal 6 damage by Turn 6. Compare it to other 4-slot weapons like [card]Death's Bite[/card] which swings for 8 not counting the whirlwind effect and you can see why Poisoned Blade is a bit underwhelming for now.
