ThijsNL becomes the first player to HouseCup #3’s playoffs

The Dutchman seems to be back in form as he crushes Group A over his team-mate Rdu and Taiwan’s finest Roger.

After admitting in an interview with GosuGamers during DreamHack Bucharest that he’s been struggling to adapt to the Conquest format, Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk showed no signs of weakness during the opening day of Viagame HouseCup #3. The Nihilum player piloted his Freeze Mage to perfection against last-minute replacement and team-mate Dima “Rdu” Radu to win the opening match and then moved on to play HouseCup #2 runner-up Sheing-Yuan “Roger” Luo.

Roger himself was also in top form. Pushing 73% win-rate between March and today, the Taiwanese was a force to be reckoned with, especially considering the ease with which he picked apart Danish underdog Simon “Crane” Raunhoist. Running into Thijs’ Patron Warrior and Freeze Mage in Group A’s winners match, however, put Roger in a difficult spot, down 0-2. His Handlock managed to win him one game but then came out Thijs’ best weapon – an anti-Handlock tailored Shaman, running double BGH, double [card]Clockwork Giant[/card] and even a [card]King Mukla[/card].

Even though he had to fight a deck full of answers, Roger did quite well until his life total fell into Shaman’s burst range. A pair of [card]Crackle[/card]s and a fiery [card]Lava Burst[/card] spelled defeat for Roger and sent him to the deciding match against Rdu.
