The western squad entered Chinese soil strong, winning their opening match without much opposition.
The invitation to Tempo Storm to go and play in the Chinese team league was the continuance of NEL’s initiative to bring in international competition and engage the western audience. The first foreign team to clash swords with China’s finest teams was Team Liquid back in the Autumn 2014 season, a campaign which ended with early elimination for the trio of Savjz, Neirea and ThijsNL.
Yesterday, Tempo Storm landed in China with the “minimum goal to win the whole thing,” as Dan “Frodan” Chou mentioned in a recent interview. Despite lacking their captain Andrey “Reynad” Yanyuk by their side, the Tempo Storm hit squad of Petar “Gaara” Stevanovic, George “Hyped” Maganzini and guest member from Complexity David “Dog” Caero was unstoppable. Putting up a dominant performance, the westerners steamrolled through Big3’s Kimmy, Arthur and Blue with a total score of 9-2.
While Tempo Storm’s debut was convincing, one has to point out that it was only against NEL’s weakest team as Big3 are still searching for their first victory in the league. Foreigners’ next match, in contrast, is going to be much more difficult as tomorrow they go against statistically the best team of Kapai Cabbages, currently undefeated in the tournament.
