What's a budget cup do you need to do to win them sweet items?

The budget cups for Hearthstone allow only basic, common and rare cards to be used, epic and legendary ones thus banned. Due to the limited card pool and its accessibility by rich and poorer players alike, the competitors have a more equal playing field, as they are forced to create and build decks without the most powerful and expensive cards in the game.

Getting into the tournament is easy:

  1. Create your budget decks and visit the tournament page to register. Carefully read all the rules while doing so and don't forget to provide your full BattleTag with nickname AND numbers
  2. Be online at 14:00 SGT on Saturday, November 22nd when the brackets go live. Know that all games are played on the NA server.
  3. Find your opponent and play him. Enter the results yourself while keeping screenshots of all your matches in case a conflict arises
  4. Alert an admin if a conflict arises
  5. The better you do, the more items you can earn. The winner will also go to the $500 grand finals in February.

How do we know what basic, common and rare cards are?

In Hearthstone, each card has a mana crystal in the middle, indicating its rarity. Basic cards have no crystal, common are white, rare are blue, epic are purple and legendary are orange. Examples:

[card]Novice Engineer[/card] has no crystal and is basic -> is allowed
[card]Unleash the Hounds[/card] has a white crystal and is common -> is allowed
[card]Knife Juggler[/card] has a blue crystal and is rare -> is allowed
[card]Ancient of Lore[/card] has a purple crystal and is epic -> is not allowed
[card]Ragnaros the Firelord[/card] has an orange crystal and is legendary -> is not allowed

The rules apply to Naxxramas and starter cards alike. This means that even though you can get [card]Maexxna[/card] for free from the first win of Naxxramas, the card is not allowed due to it being legendary.

Epic and legendary cards drawn from [card]Webspinner[/card] and [card]Unstable Portal[/card] are also NOT allowed.
Epic and legendary cards spawned from [card]Piloted Shredder[/card] are allowed.

Tournament structure and prizes: How to win cash prizes and Dota 2 keys and rares

Each week, the circuit will alternate between normal and "budget" cups, the latter of which will only allow for basic, common and rare cards to be used so even the Hearthstone newcomers will be able to compete, and on even ground with the "rich" players at that. The winners will go home with cash, Dota 2 keys and rares as well as a spot in the $500 grand finals.

All things summed up, we'll give away $1,300 in hard cash and more than $5,000 in Dota 2 keys and rares!

Tournament coverage

Every single cup - whether a regular or a budget one - will be extensively covered on GosuGamers with editorial pieces. Winners will get interviewed and get their names and stories across to the GGnet readership, gaining valuable exposure for themselves. What's more, as is GosuCup tradition, each nation will win points depending on its representatives' performance to determine which was the most consistent country over the course of the circuit.

Every piece of coverage - from results, to news, decklists and registration links - will be available in our dedicated coverage hub. This all-in-one page will keep you updated at all times on the progress of the circuit.
