ThijsNL wins DreamHack Masters Bucharest

ThijsNL has won the DreamHack Masters Bucharest tournament, claiming his first major title in Hearthstone as well as $4000. Thijs defeated Gaara 4-3 in a close final, and with the victory overtakes his MYM team mate Rdu in the rankings for the first time.

After two days of play, we have a new DreamHack Bucharest champion. Meet Your Makers' ThijsNL was victorious in the final defeating defending champion Gaara from Team Tempo Storm, in a close run series that came down to an elaborate game of Warrior vs Warrior chicken. Thijs takes home $4000 in prize money for his win, and jumps to #8 in the rankings entering the top ten for the first time - one place above team mate Rdu, who at one point occupied the top spot in the rankings.

The best of seven series swung back and forward between the two players. In the opening game both opted to play Shaman, and it was Gaara that took the early initiative and was victorious in the mirror match. Thijs shifted to Priest, one of the better classes against Shaman, and levelled the series up, before Gaara took the lead once again with his Rogue deck. Thijs' Handlock deck helped him eliminate the Rogue and bring the score back to 2-2 before managing to pull out an unlikely win against Gaara's Zoo to take him ahead for the first time in the series. In a very back and forth game Gaara stayed alive with his Warrior, taking the series to a deciding game seven.

In the final game, a Warrior mirror match, the two players swapped momentum throughout until it came down to the very bottom of their decks. With both players sitting on Grommash and an activator, Gaara took a gamble using Harrison Jones to destroy Thijs' weapon and increase the amount of fatigue damage he was taking by two. This proved to be his undoing as Gaara refused to play his Grommash in time to take back the initiative, and Thijs sat back and let the fatigue do its work after finally playing his Grommash in the final turn.

Thijs also defeated ek0p, Max, Flesh and Xellos on his way to the final.
