Day 1 of the Deck Wars Season 2 Finals are in the books, and eight players remain in the hunt for the title and the $3000 prize pool including top ranked RDU and StrifeCro.
The series, which is casted by ChanmanV and Frodan, lasted a marathon 10 hours. With Hunter being banned in most match-ups, it was Warrior which proved most successful throughout the day - though Trump was able to take a clean sweep over extremely late replacement Lothar with a Brian Kibler-inspired Priest deck. Lothar replaced #1 ranked TidesofTime at 30 minutes notice, who pulled out of the tournament at the last minute for unknown reasons.
In the highlight of the day, Tempo Storm's Gaara edged out Team Liquid's Savjz in a thrilling 3-2 series which saw Gaara's Mage deck push him over the edge before he closed out the series with Shaman. RDU and Kungen provided the anti-highlight of the day with a series of egregious misplays in a Handlock mirror match that RDU later attributed to the combination of a heavy tournament schedule and the beginning of the school term for him in Romania.
It was an easy day at the office for Gnimsh, Sjow, StrifeCro and Trump as they took their respective matches 3-0 without dropping a single game, and keeping their three other deck choices hidden from their rivals.
Tomorrow's broadcast kicks off at 12pm EST with a mouth watering clash between GosuGamer's #2 and #3 ranked players, RDU and StrifeCro.
