Nyhx reasons his retirement from competitive Hearthstone

Max "Nyhx" Siebel, one of the founding members of team DogeHouse, recently left professional Hearthstone. We reached out to him and DogeHouse team-mate Gnimsh to learn the reasons behind the decision.

A former WoW TCG known for enjoying competitive while being as young as 13, Nyhx transitioned to Hearthstone in 2013 alongside WoW TCG friends Ek0p and Gnimsh, becoming one of the most known streamers and occasional guest on the Turn 2 podcast. In October, Nyhx came together with the latter two players to found team DogeHouse, currently regarded as one of  the leading Hearthstone teams worldwide.

Although being well-recognized in the community, Nyhx's televized career saw lots of fluctuations. Results varied from great victories like his 4-2 against Gnimsh in King of the Hill #3 and his 3-0 over Realz - Tavern Takeover champion and one of the longest reigning King of the Hill kings - in Fight Night 5 to overall lackluster Fight Night performance of 1-3 aggregate score.

Since Fight Night #5, Nyhx's televised appearances has been scarce to say the least, missing from DogeHouse's line-up on the Gentlemen Cup's opening day. Later that week, on May 15, DogeHouse co-founder hinted that Siebel has decided to retire from the scene. The news was later confirmed by Siebel's team-mate Gnimsh:

I'm sure this decision wasn't light for Nyhx. Doge House was always more like a family than just a team so he wanted to stay with us as long as possible, but it's not worth it if you have to force yourself. That's why he decided to retire from the Team for now as he is not that interested in pursuing the Pro HS career and doesn't want to invest as much time as he did. He is still our friend and he will continue to play casually. If he ever decides to come back we will welcome him with open hands as a friend and one of the best deckbuilders this game had.

To get more insight on the situation, we also reached out to Nyhx himself, who pointed to Hearthstone's slow tempo change and development of new cards made the game boring and lacking innovation.

The reason is the game became boring for me with those huge gaps between new content. All the good decks have been around for ages and were made by players like us or different players who are getting the credit for that. There is little to no innovation. Changing 2-6 cards in a deck and then calling it your own is just stupid.

Going more than eight months without new cards is just way too long and borin. I will always support my teammates but I don't have enough reason and motivation to push for anything in Hearthstone due to its slow updates.

Siebel's retirement - which comes weeks before the release of Hearthstone's first expansion Curse of Naxxramas - leaves DogeHouse to just three members in Gnimsh, Artosis and Ek0p.
