Managrind's Realz added $1,500 to his account as he defeated Curse's Savjz in five games in last night's Tavern Takeover Invitational. Third game popular arena streamer Trump who ruled over ThatsAdmirable in the bronze final.
The debut event of the Tavern Takeover series took place on the night of May 10th and collected some of the best known name in today's Hearthstone. Players like Reynad, Trump, Savjz, Ek0p and more were thrown in a vicious single elimination bracket.
After a whole night of playing, it was Managrind's Realz coming out on top. Following a disappointing 1-3 result in Fight Night, Realz found it in him to pull out a championship run, mostly thanks to his Rogue deck. A 4-1 victory in the grand finals over Curse's founding member Savjz gave him $1,500 in the bank as well as a nice push up the GosuRankings.
The paths of both finalists to the closing match was entertaining to say the least. Savjz was an inch away from elimination in the first round, losing back to back games to Kungen's Rogue, but engineering a 3-2 comeback on the back of his Gadgetzan Druid ramp. He changed to Hunter in the semi finals to completely destroy ThatsAdmirable and become the first Tavern Takeover finalist.
On the opposite side of the bracket, Realz rode his miracle Rogue to kill the opposition. The Managrind player tried Druid and Warlock, too, but both of those classes failed, ultimately leaving Valeera to deliver the killing blows.
The first time Realz saw success with a class different than Rogue was in the grand finals against Savjz. Back-to-back wins with his Druid gave him a nifty lead and even though Savjz managed to return one point by trumping Malfurion with a Hunter, he couldn't manage to overcome Realz's signature deck for this tournament - the miracle Rogue.
The second edition of Tavern Takeover should come in about a fortnight as it is PVP Live's plans to run two Hearthstone tournaments a month.
