Wensushi stands eHL Season 1 champion, takes revenge on Crea

The Singaporean face-off that closed the first edition of eHL saw Cycle 1 runner-up Wensushi 4-3 King Crea for the crown, taking revenge for the defeat a month ago.

The SEA tournament that started mid February finally came to an end. After two cycles of group stage and playoffs, the four best performing players made it to the season grand finals to determine who's the best of them all.

Two Singaporeans, a Thai and one Filipino made for the grand final bracket and a lot of national pride was on the line. Singapore ruled Cycle 1 with ease but had difficult time in Cycle 2, allowing for a massive Pinoy and Thai domination, two countries which were very poorly presented in the first half.

The first rounds of grand final competition clearly showcased that the Cycle 1 winners in Crea and Wensushi are simply on another level. They each 3-0'd their opponents and went on to meet in the winners bracket final for what people expected to be an epic rematch of Cycle 1 playoffs.

?It wasn't. Using the miracle Rogue that brought Crea so many troubles in Cycle 1, Wensushi 3-0'd his compatriot and secured himself a place in the grand final. Looking down to the losers bracket final between Crea and Celedor - both of who he'd already defeated with ease - Wensushi was having a great day.

Said losers bracket final was the first series that went to all five games as Cycle 1 and 2 champions went at each other's throats. Set for set the series went before Crea could finally triumph with his Handlock over Celedor's Druid. Another rematch against Wensushi was coming, continuing the storyline of SEA's most developed rivalry.

The format change from Bo5 to Bo7 in the grand final which made Crea's job increasingly difficult. Coming from the losers bracket, he had to win a total of eight games against his rival and with Wensushi undefeated it was a tall order to say the leaast.

Once again, no player could hold a lead for too long. A miraculous OTK by Wensushi's Rogue opened the series only to be stopped by Crea's aggro Hunter. A control Warrior came out to counter Rexxar but that too failed and Crea went up 2-1.

With his Rogue out, Wensushi naturally went back to his other most stable deck - the Druid. Malfurion helped the Cycle 1 runner-up tie the series and even come ahead by beating Crea's handlock but had to take the bench after Crea's last deck - a mid-range Shaman - put a halt to his spree.

Game 7 thus had to be played and came down to a Zoo versus Shaman match-up. Enjoying some great draws off the top of his deck and being lucky in not facing a Lightning Storm, the Warlock board escalated to unstoppable proportions. With no mass removal, Crea was checkmated and had to concede the series, crowing Wensushi as the eHL Season 1 champion.
