Invitational tournament in StarCraft featuring Koreans and 'foreigners'. WarCraft 3 Ladder Season 5 Regionals. Oh yes, Blizzard Worldwide Invitational has come!

We have been waiting for another Blizzard managed event in South Korea, and earlier today they announced World Wide Invitational 2007. Battle.Net Ladder Season 5 Regionals will be held there, the first World of WarCraft Arena Tournament will take place, and perhaps most interesting of all for the Koreans and the StarCraft fans - an invitational StarCraft tournament mixed with Korea's and world's best players.

Last year's Worldwide Invitational winner was Nal_rA, defeating Yellow in the Grand Final. A total of four Korean StarCraft progamers were invited (NaDa and Reach) along with Pj, FiSheYe, SEn and Eriador. The Koreans totally dominated tournament as expected and in the end the Protoss god Nal_rA took home the first prize of $10,000 USD.

In WarCraft 3 the tournament was won by Sweet after defeating Grubby in a nerve breaking series. The World Wide Invitational event was the host of the Ladder Season 3 finals. Participants in the tournament were Grubby, WizPizSizZiZ, ShowTime, SouthSea, FarSeer, RotterdaM, Sweet and Phreak.

The event will take place on the 19th and 20th of May at the Olympic Gymnastics and Fencing Stadiums in Seoul, Korea.

If the competitions don't interest you, then maybe you would like to sit-in on a panel discussion with Blizzard developers to ask them any questions that you might have. Or you can also experience the many hands-on activities which will be at the event.

For replays, photos and a video interview with Nal_rA, go to the » WWI 2006 Media page. There you may also find brackets from the StarCraft and WarCraft tournaments.
