Virtus.pro tops Group B, SK gaming finishes second

As the big upset at the first day of DreamHack Summer, Fnatic gets eliminated. Virtus.pro tops Group B, while SK Gaming finishes second.

Named 'el clasico' by fans, the match between Fnatic and SK Gaming started well for SK when they managed to force a lead of 5-1, but then Fnatic woke up and made a big comeback which resulted in a 9-6 half time score for them. Supported by fans SK Gaming won a match in a similar fashion, beating Fnatic 10-0 in the second half. The second match of Round One between Virtus.pro and London Conspiracy saw the former living up to their role as favorites in this match by winning it with a convincing 16-4.

Probably the match of the day was played between Virtus.pro and SK Gaming, meeting in the Winner's match of Group B on de_train. VP kicked off vigorously on the CT side by winning the pistol round and getting aced by Snax in the second round which was enough for them to snowball through the first half with the score of 13-2. Virtus.pro continued in the same style by winning the first round of the second half on the Terrorist side, however, SK, elevated by their fans, managed to win ten consecutive rounds which in the end weren't enough for the win, though. In the Loser's match fnatic routinely won their match against London Conspiracy 16-4, and scheduled one more match against SK Gaming in the consodilation match of this group.

The last match of this group actualy was a rematch of the group's opener. SK and fnatic were paired once again, but this time only one team could advance to the playoffs. Map was yet again set to de_inferno, where SK clearly showed what they are capable of on the CT side. The match started off with fnatic's win in the pistol round, but then SK managed to win 12 rounds out of 15 in the first half. The big upset was almost made, only 4 more rounds were needed for SK to advance, however Fnatic held their ground and managed to once again win a pistol round, which wasn't enough to actualy turn this into their favor since SK won next 3 rounds. Fnatic put all the strength in and as a result managed to get the result up to 15-10, but SK didn't allow them to go into the overtime and the DreamHack Winter winners got eliminated from the tournament.
