MaDFroG retires from gaming

SK.MaDFroG, one of the biggest Western gamers of all time has decided to retire. MaDFroG is mostly known for his WarCraft III career, but was also a highly respected and very talented StarCraft player. Reason: Motivation; moving on with life and a girlfriend.

madfroggray.jpgKidArctica, writer and leader of the Schroet Kommando WarCraft Division reports a legend retiring. He has been awarded the Player of the Year 2004 title in the » Esport Awards, stood as the victor of many prestigious tournaments around the world and has been in the RTS scene for a very long time. His name is Fredrik Johansson, also known as Sweden SK.MaDFroG. The reasons for this retirement are lack of motivation, and that he wants to move on with his life. "After you have achieved some big things, it is hard to get the motivation back." he says to KidArctica in the announcement news post.

"We get too old for putting so much energy into a game"

Playing a game intensely for so long can surely make you grow tired of it. Three very good and experienced gamers recently announced their retirement, MaDFroG being one of them. "I never had a problem with playing a lot before. But I guess we get too old for putting so much energy into a game." he thinks. Fredrik Johansson really felt that the motivation disappeared after leaving the Korean pro-gaming team Korea FrienZ, and he could never get it back for real.

Team SWE member and WCG 2001 participant

Apart from his successful WarCraft career, he was also a very respected and good StarCraft player before WarCraft III was released. For many years he was a member of the Swedish StarCraft National team, and one of pro-Gaming's top members. Another notable merit is advancing as #3 to World Cyber Games 2001 in Korea. He never qualified for the playoffs with his 3-2 score in Group C, but did however place 3rd in the 2on2 finals together with Sweden JessE.

Needs some time off - with his girlfriend

Notable WC3 Merits

- 2nd ESWC 2003
- 3rd Kbk Jeju Tournament
- 1st OGN SumaCup
- 1st Blizzard Worldwide Invitational
- 2nd ESWC 2004 - 1on1
He is currently located in South Korea, playing in a WarCraft tournament called WEG - World eSports Games. He is to play a match against a Chinese player called China Magicyang, but hasn't practiced at all and expects to lose. He says that it was a mistake going there and that he has been homesick every day. "I am missing my girlfriend like crazy, and it just feels totally wrong to be here when I don't feel like playing."

Right now he feels that he needs to get away from the scene and things that have to do with computers. "I don't think I will follow the scene, not right now at least. I need some time to get on with my life." Instead he will spend a lot of time with his girlfriend and take some time off. He doesn't feel like he needs to work, which is pretty understated after all the tournaments where he stood as the victor.
