Deepstacked tournaments (1609 reads, 4 replies, 5 months ago)
Hey, I've been playing a deep stacked tournament every friday for 4 weeks in a row now,it's about 15-20 players generally. You start with 25k chips and blinds start 25/50 and its 20 minute levels. First week I finished third, second week fourth third week somewhere in middle and yesterday I finnished fourth again. Im happy with my early phase play, I mostly do fine and manage to get my stack up to 35-50k generally during the first two hours but then my advantage start declining the more the game progresses and eventually I find myself bleeding chips and have to go allin often resulting in coin flips.

I need some help to improve my mid and late game play so I can keep my advantage that i built up early.

Finally an interesting thread here after a long time! Deep-stack tournaments differ from others clearly in having a big starting stack considering the blinds.
So in my oppinion in these tournaments bet sizes are the most important as you have to adapt to betting differently then in regular stack tournaments.

Here are some things I think of as good tips on playing these types of tournaments.

When you have a big hand go for a significant raise because you will risk getting called more often with marginal hands as they will get the right price for calling making your hand less protected.

So in order to protect your big hand bet stronger then in regular stack tournaments.(meaning if you bet 3 times BB you can exceed to 8 times BB in deep-stack tournaments)

Also take note you can play more hands as your stack is bigger so if you get allowed play nut-type hands often as they have a bigger value here then other hands, so if you hit your hand alongside your opponent hitting lets say top pair you will get payed off more in these tournaments as they will more often bet big.(Meaning suited hands, connectors etc.)

These were some general tips now reffering to you playing in later phases, it depends, but i find aggresion when you accumulate alot of chips to be benefitial to accumulating even more chips.

With that said you should also take note what image are you sending to the table. If you raise alot of hands they will think of your range to be really wide, so you can exploit it by changing gears(mixing-it up) start playing differently and shorten your range alot, so you will get called even with monster hands based on your image.

This is a sum-up of the things I find to be important I can elaborate them more if you want, hope I helped a bit!

Thanks for the tips! I see what your getting at. Last time I played I had a stack of roughly 60k after 1 hour and then I lost about 15k chips in 3 hands when I got AK JJ and QQ in a row, I think I raised to little preflop to allow more callers and I got marginal flops which put me in a tough spot and I lost some money.

What you said about agression after building up a big stack, I know how it works in theory but when I'm at the table it feels like I'm gonna give away chips more often then gaining chips, maybe it's beacuse some players are to loose or maybe it's beacuse I'm agressive in the wrong situations I dont really know.

well, a small thing i gathered from personal expiriance, and im not suggesting im pro or anything, is your agression should be based on your position on the table based on the styles of your opponents. think about it.

Try to watch the bettin pattern of your enemy if your going to do the aggro tactic, usually works but can be a dangerous method.
