The International 2 Confirmed For The USA

Posted by Seth "Sazab" Tompkins 3 months ago
joinDota.com Administrator and "The International" Organizer Moritz "Moose" Zimmermann announced on jD's forums that "The International 2" is to be held in Seattle, Washington, USA.

Valve let on soon after The International that the second incarnation of the tournament would occur in 2012, however we now have confirmation from an event organizer that The International 2 will take place this year in the United States.

This forum post was made by Moose under a thread titled "The International 2 Speculation." As Moose is one of the primary organizers for the event it is safe to assume that Seattle will be the home of The International 2.

The International remains the worlds largest LAN prize, rumor has it that the second iteration will have at least as much capital at stake. Could this years event possibly surpass the 1.6 million USD total purse of the last competition?

Link to the joinDOTA.com forum thread is below.

Update: Gabe Newell and Erik Johnson have confirmed via email that The International 2 will be held in Seattle:

Yes, the plan is that the second International will be in Seattle.

Other details are yet to be finalized. Keep your eyes on GosuGamers for further information!

If Moose says it, it must be true.

But the word "official(ly)" is missing in your headline.

Is there any gaming convention or anything of that sort going to be held in Seattle this year? If not, it would mean that The International will be standalone event most likely.

just going to point out the obvious, that this has been known for a while, in multiple interviews with eric johnson

This is not something new, and a forum post should probably not be the source you are searching for

#5 I have to disagree!! Sure, Erik Johnson said it. But now MOOSE said it, which equals an ultimate and definite confirmation. Finally, all doubts are gone.

Thanks, Tobi. Maybe you could give that same passive-aggressive response to ESFI and the other outlets quoting that post.

US is the obvious choice, since Valve want to make get as many Americans as possible for their playerbase. Having TI2 there makes a lot of sense

#5 If it was already announced, by all means, show us where this was. The fact that joinDOTA has been secretive about this information until now is enough to prove it was never public knowledge. You've held back yourself from revealing this on stream before.

Now, claiming that this has been public knowledge, which it hasn't. As someone that watched nearly every Erik Johnson interview, it's definitely not something he broadcast freely.

I wouldn't mind. At least there'd be some tense and interesting matches not just all the farmfests.

Chinese farm when farming is the best strategy. I guess you guys didn't see the Chinese take a shit on EG when they were in China. They didn't need hourlong farmfests to shit on EG, and their skill difference was clearly evident.

We've known that there would be a second edition of The International since the first one; multiple parties have said that they intend for it to be an annual event. To my knowledge, however, Moose's post on the jD forum is the first public acknowledgement of the venue.
