Brawl Qualifier #1 Awarded to Natural 9

Posted by Matthew "LuckoftheIrish" Roberts 4 months ago
After a controversial final between Australia Natural 9 and United States Fire, the first qualifier in the DotaReplays Brawl has been awarded to Natural 9.

The two teams battled it out on Sunday, but the match was placed under review after it became apparent that a bug involving Puck's Phase Shift and its interactions with various forms of disable had affected the game. Today, the administration of the Brawl released their official ruling. After determining that the bug did have a significant effect on the outcome of the match, DotaReplays has awarded the victory, and the first spot in the Final Four, to Natural 9.

Since Fire were not warned during the match, they will not face punishment and will be given the #1 seed in the second qualifier, which will take place on January 22.

Since FIRE was not officially informed by a tournament official, it's unrealistic to punish them to the fullest extent by banning them from future qualifiers. However, upon extensive review and deliberation, it's been determined that the Puck bug did in fact have too great an effect in several confrontations that undeniably altered the expected result of said confrontations. Ignoring the entire subject of intentional or unintentional use, this simple fact alone prevents us from leaving the ruling as a win for FIRE.

And since, without the shadow of a doubt, with confirmation from Icefrog, a bug was occurring that aided the survivability of Puck, and this bug occurred multiple times and had at least a moderate impact in the game, our final ruling is this:

Because of the use of a potentially game altering bug, regardless of malicious intention, we've nullified the match and awarded the first slot in the Final Four to N9. Team FIRE is not banned from participating in future qualifiers and instead will be first seed in the next qualifier happening on the 22nd of January.

In addition, DotaReplays has clarified and expanded their rules regarding bugs and reporting them to the admins:

If a bug is recognized during a game, players must immediately pause and contact a tournament admin. Upon investigation by tournament admin, depending on the severity of the bug, the admin will take necessary measures to secure fair play. This ranges from play continuing to remaking the game or even disqualification from current and future events.

To prevent future abuse, deliberate or accidental, the admins have banned Puck from use in future tournaments.

should rematch :/ that would be the most fair. just because it altered outcome does not mean n9 would have for sure won.

ps a lot of people got trolled out of their minerals D: :D

sad decision, very unproffesional from admins. why they didnt warn Fire earlier? you cant just make decisions when 2 rax are down and game is over. rematch this final...

This is a fucking joke. Bugged puck is okay for international but too imba for this tournament?

And then you gave the win to fucking n9? Are you serious? Reconsider this while you can admins, wait too long and it'll be too late to correct this very stupid wrong.

#4 Well..Maybe trolling..
But who care,if FIRE can ''win'' N9 and the rest of the teams in the qualifier..
I'm sure they can owned again in the second qualifier and show us their win is not a fluke!

n9 lose and still win? Fairest solution was a rematch, if not awarding FIRE the win in the first place. This is ridiculous but whatever, grats to n9 on their 'win'. On the bright side, we'll get to see FIRE stomp more teams as a result. Response from the community and other pro players says it all really; it's the tourney's fault not FIRE's that the game continued. n9 #1 comeback of 2012? Literally lose and still win!

if anyone is interested how ignorant the admins are. This tourney should just be boycotted.

#12 Well tbh, that bug influenced game a lot, but still, the best possible thing(and the fairest of course) would be to rematch. Even if it wouldn't change anything at all, it would show good sportsmanship from the side of tournament organizers. This way, it created even more drama than the game itself.

Btw #13, I don't agree with Bulba at all there. You can't say that he intentionally used it? After escaped death from Void, SK and Rhasta, Musica asked how does he do it, and he answered with smiley, and said "Phase Shift Imba!", something like that. I am pretty sure that he intentionally used it, but whatever, even so, the decision is completely retarded.

Ruling is garbage, admins are garbage, and now the tournament is garbage. They should settle on some type of Rematch between the 2 teams. I really hope Fire plays in the qualifiers and then tea bags N9 in the Final Four.

Lots of opinions and hate being thrown at both teams and the tourney organisers. This a very a grey area and I think people should keep their hateful comments to themselves, since both teams are really good and for the most part well mannered. A rematch straight after would have been the best solution, but I'd imagine a lot of hate being thrown at N9 if that occurred, now it doesn't seem like too bad of an idea, does it?
#16 LuckY.One 4 months ago
sorry what? regardless if FIRE was the better team or not, they DID ABUSE the bug. its not just using autocast to dodge arrows and random spells.
its activating autocast while u are being disabled (why would u do that, if not for abusing)
since when do you cry about bug abuser not winning? go back to your nerd lab and finish your dota2 maphack tool mb.

Who the fuck is this shithead admin that called this?

At least make the call for a rematch. you cannot forfeit win to the losing team without ANY punishment to the winning (and apperently cheating(...)) team.

PS. N9 got steamrolled and QQ'd. Good sportsmanship.

Admins are idiots, I tried having a simple discussion on their IRC chat and they banned me after I asked them why they chose not to give an option to remake, simply stating that they didn't need to tell anyone. GARBAGE TOURNAMENT ADMINS :)

They knew the bug and they exploited it. That's why. Good thing they wont be banned, at least.

Kudos to GoDz.

This wasn't fucking "bug abuse" it was "bug occurring"

If games were lost from bugs occurring then a third of the dota 2 games would end like that. No only these clueless idiots could rule like this. If they are this ignorant of dota 2 perhaps they should seek the opinions of respected and knowledgeable members who do know what they are talking about.

#35 daibo 4 months ago
Yeah right activating autocast after being disabled and running around in phaseshift is not "bug abuse". Srsly how much of a fucking tool can you be?

#36 Hatguy 4 months ago
After reading in to the matter i most say i approve what the admins say and why they did what they did.
2
#37 PlaymatE-_- 4 months ago
Yes running around in phaseshift with admins watching and still doing nothing about it until game is over and N9 loses, i call that supporting bug abuse, you dont?????? Could have paused (talked about it, loaded since dota2 autosaves, told them not to activate autoshift while disabled if that was the case) instead god sucks someone and lets them stick something up his ass, then N9 gets win. Easy game.

Multiple people have said that a remake was discussed and rejected by Fire. If that's the case, then what?
2
#42 daibo 4 months ago
#38 that's more like tolerating bug abuse. They did bring it up the after the puck gank at top but no admin said anything.

I am FLUFFNSTUFF, captain of Team FIRE, and I can confirm that we were not confronted with the proposal for a remake. There was no proposal of any description that holds any official value. I was not contacted by any admins, directors, associates and so on. We have, IN FACT, not officially rejected any remake. Stop creating these assumptions based on rumor please. We will accept any remake at this point in time, however it seems as if there are no available options outside of being disqualified.

This same shit happened in the international but noone noticed because noone bitched about bug abuse.

Admins are just ignorant and N9 are just bitches.

This is a beta game and you play with the game as you are given it.

#46
see, the problem is not "bug occuring" but "bug abusing"
thats a huge difference

I dont get it how you all can defend bug abusers?
Rules are rules... you dont even need rules to know that you must not abuse bugs!
tbh even a rematch would have been a joke, when Dota2 shall become serious eSports, then teams must start following the rules, dont be so badmannered and abuse bugs and especially dont be so retarded to bitch over their fair treatment (in that case a very harmless one). At least Fire didnt do the latter one, but I doubt that all these idiots crying will help Fire's reputation

#48 dalitas 4 months ago
All of you are really stupid, DID YOU EVEN WATCH THE GAME ? PUCK WAS CLEARLY ABUSING THE BUG AND WHEN N9 ASKED HOW HE COULD PHASESHIFT DURING CHRONOSPHERE AND RASTA SHACKLE HE SIMPLY SAID "AUTOCAST RULES HEHEH" OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. SO BAD MANNERED IMO.

I advice everybody to watch the VOD before talking shit. N9 clearly deserved the win since puck ABUSED the bug. I don't care how much in denial all of you are but seriously if you can phase shift during void ulti + rasta shackle YOU MUST BE AWARE that it's something wrong. Nevertheless, he continues using autophase.. = cheating 110%. I don't see how people can have sympathy for that.

#50 tomasfreitag 4 months ago
#48 If you look at all the forums about this matter, you will see that Fire's reputation is untouchable, nearly noone approves the admins decision, if there are any reputation that is ruined, is theirs...

They did not abuse a Bug, they were not breaking any rules, it's like "speeding 50 mph in a non-limit highway" and getting a ticket because the police says so, using Bartl33t's comparision...
