SearchProfessional Edition Rumours False, No LAN Planned

Rumors of a professional edition for StarCraft 2 were spread across the internet hours after June 24th when Blizzard held a special reveal in South Korea. This reveal was of plans for scholarships, a big portrait of Jim Raynor over two 747s, but no plan for a professional StarCraft 2 edition that included LAN.According to Blizzard reps there is no plan for LAN or a professional StarCraft 2 edition. This brings an abrupt end to the rumours that had been circulating around the internet for the past few days. There will be no LAN and no professional edition for StarCraft 2.
What can be confirmed is that Blizzard is that there will be a post-launch patch that will address tournament functionality soon after release. This patch will have features that address the needs of location-based professional tournaments.
The reveal was made on June 24th that Blizzard had made plans with close sponsorships from various companies such as Korean Air. This included two 747s that would fly regular flights domestically and internationally around the world. The rumour of a professional edition that included LAN for Korean tournaments was soon spread around the community.
GosuGamers.net had reported this as true, but had made an error in doing so and apologizes for this mistake.

| It was pretty obvious Blizzard would not create such a game version, doh! However, the post shipping tournament thingy doesn't necessarily have to be something related to LAN play. It can always be something for the tournament organisers like the ESL, or TL.NET's Invitationals etc to be displayed in some menu in-game and serve like a meeting place for the players that signed up for those specific events (probably password protected access). This is just my idea of the tournament support they might add and like i said, it doesn't even suggest anything about LAN play.  |

When I heard about SC2 LAN tournaments which will be supported by some Blizzard dudes, I had ONE obvious thought which I can repeat once more: Blizzard _probably_ will provide these events with "LAN BNET2" boxes (some "uncrackable" local battle.net servers) which will be brought by Blizzard dudes. That's why this "supporter" is needed in first place. Blizzard obviously will try to keep their good reputation and try to avoid all possible connectivity issues which will be there if official "global" Bnet2 server will be used. Client patching for the sake of redirecting to "local" battle.net realm not a big deal and already done with this chinese SC2manager (really tiny patch). |
well I think they'll figure out somehow a way to avoid the neccessity of LAN integration, and include some hilarious features to help local tournaments in a certain way  . They'd never let any1 to leak out a version that has LAN  |

| Blizzard is only loosing on this when they're not releasing any lan oppurtunity to the people. I think that the "Lan Games" is an importent part in like warcraft 3. You can link up with your friends easy on like Garena. And play at a better ping with your friends and stuff. |

| ggnet usually posts real facts with reliable sources but when it comes to bnet 2 and blizzard all the community websites has to take a shot in the dark and hope for the best that its true. u cant blame ggnet if things like r false, blame dustin browder hes one who is responsible for everything in sc2 :) |

| #8 Professional tournaments are hosted all the time, but that does not mean they will be using a 'StarCraft 2 Professional Edition'. #11 GG.net has spoken directly with a Blizzard representative about this issue and this is indeed A FALSE RUMOUR. There is also a link to the original post by BigDownload.com which had also spoke directly with Blizzard representatives over this issue. Several other major gaming sites such as Kotaku have also corrected their mistakes over this news. #17 Blizzard's main product here is StarCraft 2, that is done, it's almost more than done. People who have played the demo of the single campaign find it fun, and the challenge missions are super fun too. Now they are working towards finishing Battle.net 2.0 and while it won't have everyone's favourite features included it's not exactly a video game on its own. #21 Yes, Dustin Browder is responsible for all things relating to StarCraft 2, but he is not in charge of Battle.net 2.0. That distinction should be made clear. |

And yeah, sc2 barely has any latency compaired to sc1..in original sc1 play ground ( very own bnet ), there was like 1 sec delay to everything you did..sc2 has NOTHING like that..barely any delay. Im fine with never having a lan. |
| Lets all be honest, the only thing that you need lan ping for is to pull off ultra precise micro. I can't think of a single scenario in sc2 that would be effected by having no lag, there simply isn't much micro involved with the game. You don't need lan ping to stim pack or spam forcefields or use fungal growth, nor do you need it to move-shoot....You get the point. On top of that the latency over bnet is incredibly good, it feels damn close to lan ping anyways. |
| I have to agree with #30. The latency really hasn't been a problem for me throughout the beta. Of course, there were times when the servers would just lag really badly, but its beta and that type of thing is expected. I really see the only reason for LAN play would be to prevent any issues with battle.net 2.0. I'm sure Blizzard is working hard to ensure there will be no latency issues with battle.net 2.0. Do the pros need LAN play for the game to be a huge success? No Would LAN play be a nice addition to competitive play? Yes Overall there isn't a real need for LAN support. However LAN support would definitely help the competitive aspects of the game grow. After all S2 will be and should be the next big E-Sport |

| I don't like the recent trend in Blizzard games. Observe: Diablo, warcraft, and starcraft: They supported every type of multiplayer game imaginable, including spawned games for your buddy to play off the same CD with you! enter World of Warcraft First you "buy" the game, they you have to pay to play it....with no local option and no "free to play" single player option. Sorry, if I "bought" something then I should have...you know...the option of actually using it...without paying for it again every 3 or 4 months. Starcraft2: No lan, no spawn. "free to play," but only on their server, which suffers from serious, ridiculous latency issues, particularly when combined with Charter Pipeline, who doesn't update their equipment but apparently once every decade or so.. So, does the game even have an option of "1vX computers" without being logged onto bnet? I know I used to make "direct cable connection" games when I just wanted to play around vs mass computers, or when Bnet was down. With no LAN option, players can't even play multiplayer unless Bnet is working and they have an active internet connection that is working. This is why I do not like these trends. The multiplayer aspect of the game becomes useless the day blizzard decides to stop supporting it. |
