[Hiero]

I've been seeing a lot of SM's going solo mid lately and I've had the 'pleasure' to face them. This hero is able to literally destroy his opponents by spamming Arcane Bolt given that he gets a quick bottle.

I've tried staying very defensive but it allows SM to push the lane and thus control the runes. Magic stick has not proved being useful against him either.

The only thing that worked (more or less) for me was to dual lane against him with an aggresive support i.e. CM or Veno. However, due to uncooperative allies one doesn't always have the possibility to dual lane mid w/ a support.

I'm looking forward to suggestions of heroes, items and general tips on how to counter this broken hero in pubs.

if you cant farm , get your teammates to gang Skywrath Mage , since it mostly doesnt survive a gank because of it's squishyness
or you could just farm a BKB to counter SM completely

Alright, ganks. Kind of similar to a dual lane. I highly doubt that people will gank SM early enough in mid though.

I laned against it only once, and I didn't get spammed. From what I saw the hero is a lane heavy hero like other int heroes. Usually it is expected that a similar type of hero should match up well, and just reading the spell, OD and SD comes to mind.

Pick counter-spammer like TS, Krobelus and Thrall etc. Also these are

OD and SD

good against SM.

Harras him. You're basically fighting a cm without stun or nova but arcane bolt and that slow thingy. Skytard Mage = Glass Canon. Easy mode to beat 1v1.

i think silence is good counter to SM due to his third skill
and mostly int heroes are weak against silencer

harassing him using what kind of hero?SD and OD is not bad choice tho..but once the lv quite high...with his 6sec silence...SD and OD is doomed too...go bkb for OD?i dont think first item OD will buid is bkb though..

i think his strength is in his range .. get a blinker or smth if you are close to him you can deal more dmg than he can over time.
