What hotkeys do you guys use for items? I feel kind of restricted to what I am capable of playing/buying based on this. I have my hero at 1 (I know there's an F1, but I've been used to it since the old RTS days), and I currently have Q and 4 as my two items. What would you guys suggest, preferably as a single button (versus alt + ___ or something like that), that has a relative ease of access?

i think it changes hero to hero but i always use space for hex D:

On legacy you can use Capslock, Space, Q (if u don't go Invo).. Which is not enough basicaly but it's OK. Only thing is you cannot easily switch to autocast for DR frost/vampiric etc, which you can when not using legacy.

I use these hotkeys and i have allways done.

MOUSE 5

Then i got hero binded to 2 and crow to 3. And i don't play chen that often so not ultimate bind for a hero like that

i use LEGACY + space for the *most important* item + 3,4,5(usually forcestaff) + 1 for teleport

*depending on hero or stage could be phaseboots, dagger, manta, hex, bottle/tangoes(early game)

if theres a Hero use X shortcut, i change it to W...
for (+), i use my right-thumb, usually use it for instant active item like meka or pipe...
and theres no hero use Q shortcut but invoker...

how to bind mouse 4 and mouse 5 keys for inventory purposes.. some one please guide me... thanks.

in WC3 DotA i use 1 for Circle 2 for Chick and so on for Chen and Enchant. For items i prefer numpad keys rather warkeys or add-ons. In Dota 2. again default. But the pattern of item keys are slightly change though it is manageable. Default = Best.

2 - hero
3 - courier
4, 5, 6, 7 - items

4 - usually wand/bottle/tango: so basically only regen
5 - blink/phase boots: mobility
6 - mek/hex/pipe: utility items
7 - everything else

W = blink
Q, Z, X depends on items. Like urn, wand, mek etc

if i use the old hotkey like in dota1, its usually SPACEBAR for main item , Z for the second item (in case of SF change it to V >, F for third item < as above, change it to R E or whatever if it overlaps your hero skill hotkey> and Q for the 4th item. only 4 hotkeys.

but in dota2 i used to Q W E R F G as skill hotkey, therefore i use SPACEBAR for 1st item, D for 2nd item, the rest is 2 3 T and V.
and 1 is for my hero.
i find it quite convenient when u put your fingers on keyboard.
