ofc 7990

but i'd still go for gtx 580, its the fastest single gpu at the moment
590 is simply 2 580s combined...

you might just wait for the gtx 600 series

#3, 7970 is the highest single GPU performance by FAR.
Now, gtx 590 is a dual and IS NOT a 580x2 it`s almost 570x2.
The GK104/110 series which are the gtx 600 are supposed to be higher than the 7970, but rumor around it suggest not. It`s a new tecnology(Kepler) and nvidia hasnt been know to be the best at introducing new tecnology.
I suggest going for a 7970, dont wait price drops after nvidia. It`s know that they have yield problems.

If you got extra $ to spend then go to GTX 590, its faster than 7970 (because yeah dual core against a single core).
But also take into consideration that Its gonna be hotter than the 7970. And 7970 can pretty much run everything out today smooth with max settings so I suggest you go with 7970 or wait for the next series to come out.

@ 5 yeah my bad i mistyped it
in addition the next generation Nvidia GPUs will be in Kepler Technology(600 series) then on the much higher Maxwell Technology

also other rumors say that Nvidia will be skipping the GTX600 tag and will go for GTX700...
i saw a GTX 780 on some sites, but still rumors
