Hearthstone veteran WaningMoon wins GosuCup #6 for the Philippines

Coverage hub - all info in one place!

Many GosuCup SEA winners might've had little to no tournament experience prior to that, but Dustin "WaningMoon" Mangulabnan is not one such player. Having participated in big tournaments lik IEM Shenzhen, the Philippines player came out this weekend to win GosuCup #6 Budget.

In the first weekend of December, SEA players flocked to the third budget GosuCup tournament, having to build with just basic, common and rare cards. Many of the previous champions made a return but nobody could add a second GosuCup title to their name as a Hearthstone veteran in WaningMoon swept the field.

Waning moon made his first televised appearance during IEM Shenzhen where he narrowly lost in the group, finishing third behind XiaoSoul and missing the playoffs. He later played in the Prismata Cup #2 last chance qualifier, also failing to make it to the main event.

After consulting and coaching the GosuCup #5 winner, WaningMoon was determined to score a trophy for himself. The Filipino went on a tear and was 14-1 before the grand final where he had to fight compatriot Pompi in a five game series to win the face-off. In the bronze final, Zenbadsu 3-1'd Thailand's ckpbs, making it a complete victory for the Philippines.

GosuCup #6 standings:

1. Philippines WaningMoon - 50 Dota 2 Keys
2. Philippines Pompi - 25 Dota 2 Keys
3. Philippines Zenbadsu - 10 Dota 2 Keys
4. Thailand Ckpbs - 5 Dota 2 keys
5-8. Indonesia Lincolm - 5 Dota 2 keys
5-8. Indonesia Nyiknyuknyek - 5 Dota 2 Keys
5-8. Vietnam Minhalhp89 - 5 Dota 2 Keys
5-8. Thailand Mindrpg - 5 Dota 2 keys
All Ro64 participants - 64 Dota 2 Rares

After sitting on the top for two weeks straight, Vietnam is finally dethroned thanks to the Philippines' crusade this week. With all top three spots occupied by the white-blue-red flag, the Filipinos are now first with 29 points, three more than the runner-ups from Vietnam.

With two players in the top 8, Indonesia is nowo tied with Singapore for the bronze but their 17 points will need some heavy boosting if they're to contest the top dogs. Thailand and Malaysia - with 10 and 9 points, respectively - are also having hard times in recent cups, which has put them towards the bottom.

Nation standings after week 6:

1. Philippines Philippines - 29 points
2. Vietnam Vietnam - 26 points
3. Singapore Singapore - 17 points
3. Indonesia Indonesia - 17 points
5. Thailand Thailand - 10 points
6. Malaysia Malaysia - 9 points
7. Laos Laos - 0 points
7. Cambodia - 0 points
7. Burma - 0 points
