Taureniac near lead as EPT Snowfest kicks off

The European Poker Tour's popular Snowfest tournament has begun at the Alpine Palace Hotel in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria. A total of 482 players from 44 countries entered the €3,750 EPT Snowfest main event in its two Day 1 flights.

A €1,636,390 prizepool was created that will pay 72 places paid with €390,000 reserved for first. The numbers are down some from the 546 who played last year.

A total of 268 players survived the Day 1 flights and will enter Day 2 in Austria Tuesday with APPT Macau High Roller champion Vladimir Geshkenbein holding the chip lead.

EPT Copenhagen champ Michael Tureniec is in the top three and names like Mike Sowers, James Keys, and Team PokerStars Pro Fatima Moreira de Melo are all threatening. Lex Veldhuis also got off to a good start, with Dario Minieri, Sandra Naujoks and Liv Boeree still in but off to slow starts.
