Ziigmund Contemplates Quitting Poker

Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies has been largely absent from the biggest games for several months after his horrible multi-million dollar losses in 2010. He returned to the game recently on PokerStars and shared some thoughts on his comeback.

In a Coinflip interview, Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies said he had contemplated quitting poker after his massive downswing of 2010 and if it continues in 2011.

On quitting poker -
"If things don’t start to go better, then I maybe have to find something else to do... Even though I don’t even know what. I just need to play smaller now and get my confidence back. Now I feel like that I might still win some day. I haven't felt like grinding for a long time, but we'll see what happens. When I feel fresh and play sober, everything clicks. It's just I have to get my confidence level up and my head straight", Ziigmund stated.

On reasons why he wasn't playing well -
"Now when I'm back home in Helsinki I have been going to the gym sometimes when not partying... When I'm looking back the sessions I played while I was in Thailand, it's just sick. Half of the sessions I played drunk and the other half with a cool hangover. It's just not for me. 30 degrees celsius, everybody is partying outside and all my friends are there, how I'm supposed to make the right decision?"

On his switch from Full Tilt Poker to PokerStars -
"The whole Full Tilt software started to give me creeps, it almost made me vomit. It might sound ridiculous, but I am not superstitious or anything", Sahamies said. "I just wanted to check out how it feels like to play on PokerStars and the games seem to fit me better. At least now when Isildur1 plays there. Those tables are really great as they have 250bb maximum buy-in and half the players buys in with $12,500. I haven’t seen that many short stacks with couple of grands around," Ziigmund concluded.

On his current approach to poker -
Ziigmund recently turned a $93k profit on his session and expanded about his approach to playing presently. "I just spewed a couple of hundred thousands while I was drunk... I haven't been playing after that at all, but now everything feels nice. Wednesday night I played for over four hours, which is about the maximum these days. I don’t feel like playing any longer, unlike five years ago when I was able to play 24/7", Sahamies said.
