Vici Gaming are headed to the grand finals of AMD SAPPHIRE Dota Pit for a rematch against Team Liquid.
The first series of the day featured two Chinese powerhouses fighting for the honor to represent their region in the grand finals.
Newbee was relegated to the brutal best-of-one lower bracket elimination series when they were wiped out by Team Liquid in the upper bracket semi finals. They then staved off defeat of two powerful foes - overthrowing both OG and Virtus.Pro.
Vici Gaming were also thrown to the lower ranks of the loser bracket finals in a clean sweep at the hands of Team Liquid.
Both teams were hungry for revenge on the European team and looking to be the first team to hand them a loss. In the only best-of-three series for the lower brackets, the stakes were high and the action was intense. Thrilling comebacks, team fights, and clutch plays forced a full three game series to determine the victor. At the end it was Vici Gaming who proved to be too hot to handle as they prevailed over their Chinese brethren.
Newbee have taken the bronze medal position on the podium, claiming 45 qualifying points to add to their collection.
ViCi Gaming will now advance to the Grand Finals to face off against Team Liquid who remain undefeated. The best-of-five series is expected to kick off at approximately 16:30 CEST.
Game One
Xu "Moogy" Han on Ursa began to just destroy his opponents, clearing out all in his path as Newbee started to overpower Vici Gaming in fights. The push power for VG was strong and their rotations were crisp making it still a harder and closer game than Newbee would have preferred. As the late game power started to ramp up for ViCi Gaming, the were able to bring things to even keel and turn it into anyone's game. The last few minutes was a thrilling series of events when at 44 minutes a team wipe then team buyback on Newbee then led to them taking down Roshan only to all die once again in a spectacular fight that also knocked out four of ViCi Gaming's hereos for Necrophos and the creeps to then take down the ancient to end the game in VG's favor.
Game Two
The second match of the day seemed to be much more heavily one sided in favor of Newbee at the start. Coming out aggressive, ViCi Gaming tried to find a comfortable lead which was thwarted by Newbee and their very farmed cores. With better team fights, applying tons of pressure and crushing Vici Gaming, Newbee evened out the series 1:1.
Game Three
The deciding match was an aggressive fight till the finish. Vici Gaming continuously found ways to punish Newbee for their draft and dominate the fights when Newbee seemed to be lacking a way to lock down the engagement. Despite coming out on top in the fights, it was still Newbee that had the edge and advantage for much of the game, pushing into the base pushing Vici Gaming's backs against the wall. Fighting for their lives and the tension rising, ViCi Gaming summoned up all of the strength and momentum they could muster and seized control of the pace of the game. A huge team fight win for Newbee at Roshan 50 minutes in once again swung the game in their favor, resetting things to essentially even. Incredible combos and damage coming out of ViCi Gaming one hour in pushed the advantage back into their favor and the eventual win.
