The first round of open qualifiers have concluded for the SL i-League Invitational Season 3 Minor. Double Dimension, BoomID, Luccini and Fúria Jovem have clinched a spot in the regional phase for CIS, SEA and South America.
Only three regions competed over the weekend to be the first to claim a spot in the new minor/major season. One team from CIS - Double Dimension and one team from SEA - BoomID reigned supreme after toughing out the grueling two day open qualifiers. Surviving the brutal best-of-one elimination series the teams advanced into the semi finals and finals besting their fiercest opponents. For BoomID, the team from Indonesia, that meant knocking out known regional squad RRQ in a 2:0 sweep. For Double Dimension it was a matter of overpowering TBM, rising talent in the region that had just taken the championship title in D2CL season 12 and then a clean sweep over Spartak, including Ivan "VANSKOR" Skorokhod, Vladimir "yol" Basov and Stanislav "633/BzzIsPerfect" Glushan.
Double Dimension had just finalized their roster only days ago to include a few international names to the lineup such as Roy "ROTM" Rajji from Lebanon and Nikola "LeBronDota" Popovic from Serbia.
On the other side of the world in South America, teams waded through the best-of-one series until only four were left standing. Both Luccini from Peru and Fúria Jovem from Brazil swept through their opponents 2:0 to each take a place in the regional event. Most likely South America had been awarded two spots as the region is still ripe with instability and shuffling their rosters making regional invites slightly more complicated.
Three more regions will brave the waters of the open qualifiers this coming weekend - EU, North America and China. Teams still have spots and time available to register to compete.
