Following the Newbee announcement from earlier today, Galaxy Battles welcome iG Vitality as their second invited team to the $150,000 event.
With their sister team, Invictus Gaming, having a full packed tournament schedule and therefore not able to participate at NESO’s fourth event, iG Vitality will look to establish supremacy over Newbee and six other squads participating at the Galaxy Battles this June. The tournament will be the very last one before The International 7 invites will be announced which sets the scene for an epic final battle that can potentially send the Champions to Seattle.
iG Vitality finished on an honorable 4th place at Dota 2 Asia Championships 2017, just before the Kiev Major and won the fans hearts when their carry player Zhang 'Paparazi' Chengjun won the 1vs1 Tournament after defeating three of the best solo mid players we have in Dota 2. To take home the DAC 2017 1vs 1 trophy, Paparazi swept through Newbee’s Song 'Sccc' Chun, the TI6 Champion Zhou 'bLink' Yang, and in the grand finals, took down the one and only Amer 'Miracle-' Al-Barkawi.
The Galaxy Battles direct invite gives iG Vitality the chance to perform once again in front of their home crowd and having in mind that this is their only chance to shine before the TI invites, we expect the best performance the five players can deliver!
With two out of the four direct invitations already announced, Galaxy Battles kicked off the open qualifiers as well today. Southeast Asia, China and India are the first regions to enter the competition, with European and American brackets being scheduled to commence on the 29th May. By the end of the current month all four qualified teams will be decided and Galaxy Battles will be ready to enter the LAN phase. The main event will take place from June 14th to 18th at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Stadium in Shenzhen China.
