The Kiev Major: OG take down Team Random in the clash of the champions

The triple Major champions, OG and the International 6 winners, Team Random (ex - Wings Gaming ) were pitted to face off in the second day of the Kiev Major main event.

Unfortunately, the merciless single elimination format leaves room only for one of these two to advance further in the tournament.

Game One

The opening game of the series added one more hero to the picks pool when Team Random, honoring their reputation, surprised their opponents with a third pick Leshrac. OG geared up for an early pushing strategy with Shadow Shaman and great teamfight scenario with an Enigma for Gustav 's4' Magnusson and a Spectre for Johan 'N0tail' Sundstein. Random ran an aggressive trilane, sending Night Stalker, Crystal maiden and Leshrac to mess up N0tail’s farm, however they weren’t able to control the lane as much as they wanted to, and it was, in fact, OG who drew the first blood, just before the first night.

Despite their tremendous efforts to find pick offs or to abuse the Diabolic Edict tower damage potential, the Chinese team got outmaneuvered countless of times by the triple Major Champions. At the 19 minute mark Random secured the first Roshan kill for themselves but that was the only one they got. Around 25 minutes into the game, S4 finished his Blink-BkB and was able to turn around most of the teamfights with his Black Holes, later on getting the Refresher orb complete and sealing the deal for OG.

Game Two

After the hard loss suffered in game one, Team Random showed their Champions colors in the second game of the series. They beautifully tricked OG with four picks that didn’t make much sense until the very last hero choice, which was a Death Prophet. Surprisingly enough, OG made quite a weird choice by taking Arc Warden for NotaiL, into already revealed Team Random’s Winter Wyvern support.

On a side note, OG played Arc Warden three times in the group stage and lost all three matches with it. Random decided to focus on getting as much farm as possible on the Batrider in the first minutes of the game, but they didn’t rush a Blink Dagger on the hero, choosing instead the Drums of Endurance as a first item. Once Winter Wyvern got her level six as well, Random unleashed the push on OG, and with perfectly landed Winter's Curses and Cold Embraces times and times again, they dominated OG’s line-up to push the series into a decisive game three.

Game Three

The third game was a whole different story. OG went with one of their many push strategies, and despite they didn’t have a good Aghanim’s Scepters draft, they still chose the Alchemist for NotaiL. Random tried to match OG’s Game plan with a Nature's Prophet and a last pick Anti-Mage but with no success. The Alchemist got his radiance extremely fast, at the 13 minute mark already pushing Random’s towers with the item equipped. OG recognized the huge lead they had and instead of turtling, they decided to purchase a Blink Dagger on the Alchemist and start running at Random continuously, shutting down any farming options for the Anti-Mage. A little after the 30 minute mark, with two lanes of barracks down, the International 6 champions admitted defeat, while OG continue to fight for a possible fourth Major tile.
