B)ears withdraw from DreamLeague Season 7 – closed qualifiers commence today

After B)ears' withdrawal from DreamLeague Season 7, a second team from the EU region can now qualify for the LeaguePlay at the closed qualifiers.

DreamLeague Season 7 qualifiers saw two teams from the EU region and one from the NA region join a host of invited teams in the closed qualifiers. These closed qualifiers get under way later today but due to a late withdrawal from B)ears, there will be a change in the European section – with second spot opening up for qualification. This means that two teams from the EU closed qualifier will move through to the EU division, while NA remains unchanged with one team looking to claim their spot.

The EU open qualifier saw Effect and Double Dimension claiming their spots in the closed qualifier, joining the six directly invited teams which include the likes of; Cloud 9, Vega Squadron and Team Spirit to name but a few. The eight teams will battle it out in single elimination bracket, best-of-three matches. Once there are only two teams remaining, those will be the two teams moving forward to the EU division LeaguePlay.

The NA closed qualifier has only four teams, as it is the first time in the history of the tournament that DreamLeague have opened the qualifications to a North American division. Qwerqwer claimed the final spot, winning the open qualifiers and joining the likes of Team Onyx, Fire and Team Freedom in the closed qualifier. The NA region qualifier only has a single spot available with the winner claiming their position in the NA division.

The main event of DreamLeague Season 7 is set to take place on July 21st and 22nd and will be held in the USA for the first time in its history – at DreamHack Atlanta. The LAN Playoffs will see a total of $175,000 split in the following way:

1st Place: $80,000
2nd Place: $45,000
3rd Place: $30,000
4th Place: $20,000

Additionally, with the LAN Playoffs being scheduled in the latter half of July, quite close to The International 7, the event organisers are offering a bootcamp to all teams that will be attending both event.

With just a few hours to go until the closed qualifiers kick off, it will be great to see some of these teams in action again.
