Newbee have already figured out the New Journey patch as they closed the first day of ESL Genting with amazing performances against both NP and Virtus.pro.
ESL One Genting is the first big LAN event of the year and also the first important one to be played after the 7.00 game update. Some of the teams, however, already tested their ideas on the new version. Newbee, Wings, and Digital Chaos having already met each other in a LAN setup at the end of 2016 at China Top.
Untouched by the Spring Shuffle and with more tournaments already in the bag, Newbee started 2017 with a very convincing win against NP in their very first match of ESL One Genting. The Chinese team came prepared with a strong draft that emphasized the infest bomb strategy with many vehicles for Naix to choose from. Queen of Pain mid lane, a roaming Mirana, and an offlane Centaur Warrunner were the three options for Xu 'uuu9' Han's Lifestealer. Alongside a support Shadow Demon, the Newbee draft worked amazingly well not only against NP who got crushed with a 37 to 8 kill score in the first match of the day but also against Virtus.pro, who had to tap out after falling with a 34 to 2 kill score.
However, the Russians from VP managed to claim victory over Fnatic in their opening match at ESL One Genting, which sends them in the decider series of Group A, leaving the Malaysian home based team to fight tomorrow for their tournament life against NP.
The Fnatic vs NP elimination series will open day two at ESL One Genting. Unfortunately for one of these two teams, this will be the last series in the tournament while the other one will advance in the decider match of Group A where Virtus.pro is waiting.
