ESL One granted invites to eight teams per region to fight for the remaining spots into the LAN event scheduled for the beginning of January 2017. Surprisingly, the likes of EG, Secret, Na’VI and Alliance will not attend ESL One Genting at all.
Differing from their previous tournament editions, ESL One decided to move away from the GSL double elimination group stage for the ESL One Genting qualifiers. Instead, each region's eight invited teams will fight in a single elimination bracket, with the tier one invited teams starting from the quarterfinals, and the tier two invites fighting the squads coming from the open qualifiers in the first round of the bracket. Another notable change to the format is the amount of qualified teams, only the winner of each region will secure LAN event tickets.
As only three direct invites were given out for ESL One Genting, the regional qualifiers will feature brackets for SEA, China, Europe, Americas and Malaysia, which will be getting its own chance at sending a team to Genting in January 2017. While the Chinese, SEA and Malaysian qualifiers details are yet to be released, the European and Americas teams start the brawl today, October 31st.
European qualifiers:
Tier one invited teams: OG, Escape Gaming, The Imperial, Team Liquid
Tier two invited teams: Vega Squadron, Virtus Pro, Ad Finem, Prodota Gaming
Open qualifiers winners: BroodMotherS, Dx, Fantastic Five, Sanguine Sharks
Americas qualifiers:
Tier one invites: NP, Infamous, FDL, compLexity Gaming
Tier two invites: Rainbows and Sunshine, Kingao+4, Doo Wop, Team Freedom
Open qualifiers winners: Dotamaster & Disciples, Keyd Stars, Elite Revenge, Soggy Mitts
The ESL One Genting LAN event will take place at the Resorts World Genting in Malaysia from the 6th to 8th of January 2017. Wings Gaming, Digital Chaos and Fnatic are the only three directly invited teams to the tournament featuring a total of eight squads fighting for a $250,000 prize pool.
