Team Secret are the Champions of FACEIT Invitational

Team Secret took a convincing 2-0 victory over Vega Squadron to secure their first Championship title after the 2016 Fall Shuffle.

Although the prize pool for this first edition of FACEIT Invitational was far from what the top world-wide teams are used to, the tournament attracted some of the best European squads due to its format. FACEIT Invitational could be seen as a big dress-rehearsal for the Boston Major, which was announced to be held in a single elimination format.

From all the eight attending squads, Team Secret and Vega Squadron survived the bo1 brawl and played each other in the bo3 grand finals earlier today. The series went off rather fast, Team Secret delivering two well executed drafts with two very different approaches.

Game One:

In the first game of the series Clement 'Puppey' Ivanov brought back something we haven't seen from him in a very long time, a signature TI3 support Pudge for himself paired with a Lifestealer and a midlane Phantom Assassin. In spite of Zheng 'MidOne' Yeik Nai’s struggles during the early laning stage against Bogdan 'Iceberg' Vasilenko’s Quas-Wex Invoker, Team Secret still took the lead due to perfect coordination between the two supports. Puppy with good timed rotations and Johan 'pieliedie' Åström with on-point Illuminates in the offlane made Vega’s Drow Ranger and Doom’s life miserable. By the 15 minute mark Secret was already having a bit over 10k net worth advantage and continued to build their lead to win the first game under 30 minutes.

Game Two:

The second game was a total different story, Vega Squadron starting off very good with four kills secured in the first three minutes. Secret’s safe lane Ember Spirit lost his life twice in these four minutes to the aggressive trilane - Keeper of the Light - Disruptor - Luna of Vega. Lee 'Forev' Sang-don was not doing well either on his offlane Tiny, getting killed also twice in the first six minutes of the match. However, things turned around for Secret with the first big rotation coming out from Tiny. Sneaky movements around the map from Puppey - Bounty Hunter, along with perfect coordination between MidOne and Pyo 'MP' No-a enabled Secret to take the game control from Vega and despite great efforts from Iceberg on Storm Spirit, Secret managed to secure their first tournament victory.

FACEIT Invitational prize pool distribution:

1st place, $10,000: Europe Team Secret
2nd place, $7,000: Russia Vega Squadron
3rd place, $4,000: Europe Team Liquid
4th place, $4,000: Russia Team Empire

Secret’s victory at FACEIT Invitational stirred many discussions on the social media channels whether the team should now expect or not a direct invite to the Boston Major. Some say that an online tournament title was never enough for a direct invite at a Valve event, some tend to believe Valve should not judge the invites based only on LAN performances from this fall. Having in mind that the Boston Major open qualifiers are set to commence this Sunday, October 23, the direct invites should be announced sometime this week. In between TI6 and the Boston Major open qualifiers the Dota2 scene had only three LAN events, two held in China, namely Mars Dota2 League Autumn and the failed luxurious experiment - Nanyang Cruise Cup, one held in Souht East Asia, MPGL SEA Championship Season 8.
