The International 6 day two recap, now with 9000 less MMR

As the second day unfolded, The International 6 saw two more teams get eliminated, among them OG, a top three favorite for the event.

Ten teams remain in The International 6 after the elimination of LGD and OG today. Of these ten teams, EHOME and EG joined MVP.P and Wings in the top six club by proceeding to the second round of the upper bracket, knocking Newbee and Alliance into the lower bracket in the process. The four teams in the top six have secured themselves at least $856,348 (4.5%) of the prize pool.

Despite the impressive 2-0s in the upper bracket which started the day, the third series of the day defied all expectations, with TnC (Gosurank: #9) eliminating tournament favorites, OG (Gosurank: #3), with a clean 2-0 score. In the other elimination match of the day, Digital Chaos smoothly took down LGD 2-0, and will be facing TnC in the third round of the lower bracket two days from now. The survivors of today's elimination match have secured themselves at least a 7th-8th place finish and $475,749 (2.5%) of the prize pool.

Tomorrow we will witness the elimination of either Alliance or Fnatic and either Newbee or Liquid. Day three will also feature the upper bracket games being played, with the winners of the matches securing a top three position.

Day three schedule:

Lower bracket: (All time in CEST)
19:00 - Fnatic vs Alliance (Gosurank: #10 vs #13)
22:15 - Newbee vs Liquid (Gosurank: #8 vs #4)

Upper bracket:
01:45 - MVP.P vs Wings (Gosurank: #7 vs #2)
05:00 - EG vs EHOME (Gosurank: #6 vs #1)

Day two game recaps:

Elimination games: (BO3)

TnC vs OG (2-0): The biggest upset of the day featured two games of TnC clawing their way back from a lead. The tempo of the first game was dictated by OG as their draft had a emphasis on timing. When the mid-game arrived, TnC fell behind after a poor team fight and surrendered large portions of their map control. Sensing that defeat was on the verge of happening, TnC stepped it up, making clutch play after clutch play, consistently destroying OG in team fights, which resulted in their victory at the 54th minute.

The opening of the second game was worse for TnC than in game one, having lost all lanes. Despite the poor state of affairs, the Pinoys held strong until OG overextended, allowing TnC to delay OG's high ground attempt. As the late game came, the late game potential of OG's Tiny-Io combo started becoming a problem, but, a pick off on the Tiny and a "yolo" mid push by TnC secured them the throne at the 50th minute.

DC vs LGD (2-0): Going for an aggressive tri-lane, DC looked to create space for their Naga Siren. As the laning stage progressed, the aggro tri-lane did nothing special and DC's mid laner struggled, however, their Naga Siren had free farm. At the 16th minute, DC's Naga secured her Radiance and DC won an extended team fight, giving them the momentum needed to overwhelm LGD with their late game potential.

In the second game, LGD had a strong early game but were stumped by DC's split pushing and effective farming while they were trying to take towers. The farm on DC's Timbersaw and Mirana led to them taking a firm hold of the game, taking down LGD with their superior farm.

Upper bracket games: (BO3)

EG vs Newbee (2-0): While the first game in this series was nothing special, the second game was arguably the best of the day. Game one featured a push line-up by Newbee that was shut down by a brilliant surprise smoke gank by EG. The smoke gank caused EG's snowball heroes to gain the initial momentum they needed, allowing EG an easy victory.

The second game was not as clear cut as both sides tried to desperately shut down each other's cores, resulting in multiple clashes and multiple plays as both teams attempted to strangle each other. In the end, the game lasted 65 minutes, ending only after a mistake by Newbee, which resulted in their deaths without buyback.

EHOME vs Alliance (2-0): Alliance held a respectable net-worth lead heading into the early game and kept EHOME on the back foot. However, a successful Roshan attempt and a timely error by Gustav 'S4' Magusson saved EHOME, allowing them to utilize the Aegis fully and force open the chink in Alliance's otherwise unbreakable net-worth lead.

After a slow game one, both teams were out for blood in game two, hunting each other in the first ten minutes of the game. EHOME pulled slightly ahead, but, it was Roshan that once again secured EHOME a sizeable advantage. This time around, a well-planned smoke at the Rosh pit caught Alliance and wiped them, forcing the Swedish boys to give up a set of barracks and, eventually, the series.
