Team Secret claim their spot at TI6

Team Secret have been to hell and back. Today, they won the European Regional Qualifiers group stage at the end of a three way tiebreaker and are the first team from the region to qualify for The International 6.

The European best of one round robin group stage ended with Team Secret, Escape Gaming (ex NoDiggity) and Fantastic Five tied on six points, which led to a deciding tiebreaker between the three teams to determine who will qualify for TI6.

Team Secret vs Escape Gaming

Secret went with a heavy team fight and push oriented draft, and played objective oriented Dota from the early stages to the end of the game. They made perfect usage of Death Prophet’s Exorcism as soon as it came online, taking early tier one towers and claiming map control. However, Escape didn’t let the game slip through their fingers and their high ground defense forced Secret to play extremely cautious, pushing high ground only with the Aegis advantage on their side.

Even so, Escape was able at times to defend the barracks only with their Timbersaw, but at the 48 minute mark they ran into Secret during a five man smoke. Artour 'Arteezy' Babaev was able to catch a four man Chronosphere into Vacuum-Wall followed by Winter Curse, which led to a team wipe and the much-needed victory for his team.

Team Secret vs Fantastic Five

With Seattle tickets at stake, F5 went with a line-up emphasizing early ganking and closed the draft with a Morphling, while Secret secured a strong team fight draft once more.

As expected, F5 had a lot of success with the first night time rotations from Night stalker and Earth Spirit, and even involved the Morphling in the early skirmishes to boost his farm. A very fast Linken’s Sphere on Morph allowed him to force fights repeatedly and for the entire mid game stage he was leading the net worth charts. But as they focused on haunting down the Juggernaut, Arteezy managed to survive all the skirmishes on his TA, slowly built up his core items and started to make the difference for Secret.

Two crucial kills on the front liner Morphling after the 40 minute mark and superior team fight control allowed Secret to secure mega creeps in one push. Although they got sloppy in the enemy base and nearly gave F5 a chance for a  big comeback, Secret took the second game victory in the tiebreakers and with that they finished the long journey to TI6 as the first European team to qualify for the most important tournament of the year.

Escape Gaming and Fantastic Five will have another shot at securing a ticket to Seattle in the qualifiers playoffs. The second regional qualifiers stage will start on June 27 at 10:00 CEST with second to fifth place finisher teams from group stage placed in a double elimination bracket. The winner will qualify for TI6 and the runners up will advance to the Wild Card competition.
