The Summit 5 Chinese qualifiers: Newbee crashes, Wings to LA

After overcoming Newbee 2-0 twice and then defeating VG.R 3-2 in The Summit 5's Chinese qualifiers, Wings Gaming has secured their spot at the LAN event.

Wings Gaming are the first invited team to The Summit 5's LAN event that will be taking place between the 13th and 17th of July in Los Angeles, USA. They are expected to join four to be announced directly invited teams and three to be decided regional qualifier winners.

Being forced to face Newbee in the losers bracket after losing a 2-1 to VG.Reborn, Wings took their revenge in the grand finals by winning an intense best-of-five series. In the five games played, some interesting drafts were featured; in game one, VG.R choose to draft a Spirit Breaker which managed to secure them many early game ganks, and in game three, Wings were GG'ed in 14 minutes after their Clinkz - Necrolyte draft collapsed. Other features of this series are the Terrorblade picks by VG.R and the two Barracks comeback by VG.R

The biggest surprise of the Chinese qualifiers is Newbee's performance. They were demolished 4-0 by Wings in their two encounters in the brackets despite forcing Gosuranking's global first place team, Liquid, to play out all five games of their series at the EPICENTER LAN grand finals just two weeks ago. Another anomaly in the results is LGD, the team failed to make it out of phase one in the qualifiers, losing to IG 2-0 despite the return of acclaimed captain Zhang 'Xiao8' Ning to the team.

In contrast to LGD and Newbee, Wings had a stand-out performance. Not only did they defeat Newbee in their prime, but they also managed to prove themselves by beating VG.R, a team with renowned players. Wings's performance show that their first place finish at ESL One Manila was not due to luck, but due to the team's ability.
