First Open Qualifiers for the Manila Major will conclude today

Sixteen teams are left in the Manila Major open qualifiers round one. Only the winners of each region will advance into the regional qualifiers.

Similar to the previous Majors, the open qualifiers for Manila feature two separate competitions, with a total of eight teams getting a chance to fight in the regional qualifiers. Today the first batch of winners will be decided, which is a perfect time to take a brief look at who is still in the run in each region.

South East Asia

Over 500 teams lost the battle in the first day of the SEA open qualifiers and will have to try their luck in the second leg of the competition. The favorites to gain the first regional spot, TnC, have survived the first day’s gauntlet and will continue the qualifying quest today. On the road they’ve eliminated Can’t say Wips from Australia and have already reached the semifinals stage of the competition.

The Koreans from MVP Hot6 have been eliminated in round 128 by PewPewVN, but the Vietnamese team couldn’t pass the next round and will have to try again with the next qualifiers set.

Europe

Almost one thousand teams checked in for the European open qualifiers and only 32 are left in the competition after the first day. A couple of Dota 2 star players are battling in this Major open qualifiers edition, among them Alexander 'XBOCT' Dashkevich. His new team, Fantastic Five, have survived to see day two and will resume the battle today at 14:00 CEST in round 32. Kaipi, Danish Bears, Elements, and Goomba are still fighting for the one spot up for grabs in the regional qualifiers.

Americas

Only 210 teams answered the first call to arms for the two American continents, making the day one a short one. The casters stack from Vegetable Esports Club had no issues advancing in the second day of the competition. Other notable teams to continue their road were Luccini, EverNova and paiN.

China

Following the Shanghai Major disaster, Perfect World was left on the outside by Valve for the open qualifiers in the Chinese region, with the competition organized for the first time by ESL. All of the participating teams along with the progress of the bracket can be found here.

At the end of day two the winners from each region will advance into the regional qualifiers. The rest will have to test their strength once more with the second set of open qualifiers which will be held on the 1st to 2nd of May. The regional qualifiers are scheduled to be held from May 3rd to May 6th, while the last Major of the competitive season will take place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Philippines, Manila from June 7th to 12th.
