MarsTV Dota2 League: One new fearsome foe

As the MarsTV Dota2 League draws closer, MarsTV has decided to re-format the Chinese qualifiers and directly invite LGD to the event.

Announced and explained on their Facebook, the MarsTV Dota2 League has decided to invite LGD to the main event and change the format of the Chinese qualifiers into a double elimination bracket, the winner of the bracket will qualify for the main event.

The reason for the change in the Chinese qualifier format was said to be due to the decision "to give them [Radiant Dire Cup by Perfect World] full exposure [...] avoid any possible schedule conflict [...] we had to postpone our qualifier." Given that the LAN event of the league is scheduled for late this month or early next month, time is insufficient for MarsTV to host the originally planned eight team best-of-two round robin and four team bubble race bracket, forcing them to change the format to the more compact double elimination best-of-three bracket with a best-of-five finals.

Because the double elimination bracket will only yield one winner and the previous the format yielded two winners, MarsTV have decided to use a direct invite to fill the slot; the team that was brought in is LGD. This alters MarsTV's already altered - by the invitation of OG - plan of directly inviting five teams, extending the list of direct invites to six teams.

The final qualifiers for this LAN event will start on the 20th of January and will decide the tenth and final team to take part in this $250,000 prize pool tournament.
