TI5 group stage, Day Two recap

As day two of The International 5 group stage ended, the participating teams have begun to separate into potential upper and lower bracket slots.

Group A

  • Team Secret had a perfect run, winning both of their matches in day two, which puts them in a comfortable lead, tied with LGD with a total of 10 points acquired.

  • LGD Gaming continued their march through the group stage dominating in their only series played in day two, vs MvP Phoenix and added yet another there points to their name to top the group.

  • compLexity Gaming has written a very nice story for their name taking yet another 2-0 victory in day two, defeating the Ukrainian TI champions Natus Vincere and stealing the show in the second game versus Invictus Gaming with a Godlike Techies, which puts them in an incredible third position in the group, with 7 points acquired.

  • Cloud 9 finally managed to close both games in the first series played yesterday versus Fnatic and with that they ended day two on fourth place group position but they have only 4 points acquired so far which are not enough to secure an upper bracket placement and they only have three matches left to rectify that.

  • Invictus Gaming are the first to stop LGD’s winning streak employing BurNIng’s notorious Anti Mage who got his Battlefury 11 minutes into the game and secured the victory for his team due to a perfect executed split push tactic.

  • Fnatic are still in need of a clear 2-0 victory as they finished the second day in group stages with only one draw versus MvP.Phoenix. Tied with IG with only three points each, they still have a chance to make the comeback as the points difference between the fourth place occupants and the rest of the teams is insignificantly small for now.

  • Natus Vincere and MvP.Phoenix are the last two teams in the group, both with only two points acquired so far, witch pretty much means that they are facing the main event from the loser bracket seats.

Group B

  • Evil Geniuses are on the driver seat with a total of 8 points, with a solid performance yesterday that yielded 6 points. To secure the 2-0 victory versus Vici Gaming they had to pull out a pocket strategy in the second game of the series, while in their confrontation with MvP.HOT6  Suma1L's  dominated yet again.

  • CDEC Gaming came into the group stage after they won the Wild Card competition and now they are looking towards an upper bracket main event as they secured another 2-0 victory in day two. After they lost their entire series versus Virtus.Pro, CDEC bounced back versus Team Empire to finish the day with a total of 6 precious points.

  • Vici Gaming had an underwhelming day two performance, Fy setting a negative record as he is the first Bounty Hunter in competitive DotA with 0 kills 0 assists in 25 minutes. Their only game taken versus EHOME saved their third position in the group, ending the day with a total of 5 points, tied with Virtus.Pro.

  • Virtus.Pro in their day two series, brought back into everyone’s attention Chaos Knight, a former TI winning hero, and managed to stop CDEC’s spectacular ascension taking a clear 2-0 victory against the Chinese newcomers. But after that, they lost the series versus Team Empire in what could be described as a CIS slaughter. And by doing so they are now holding 5 points to their name and a very insecure forth position in the group.

  • Team Empire saved themselves from a certain lower bracket spot by winning the series vs VP but they couldn’t ensure a top four as they lost the entire series versus CDEC. Although Silent is the first player to get a Rampage this year in Seattle, it was not enough to take the game. For now they are standing on fifth position with 4 points and they still have chance to upset the top four teams.

  • EHOME is currently standing on the bottom of the group with only 3 points acquired so far but they demonstrated in their day two games that they still stand as a threat. Cty made a good showcase of his great individual skills as he was the deciding factor in the games taken from Vici Gaming and Newbee.

  • Newbee got to play only one series in the second day and they didn’t manage to secure a much needed 2-0 victory which means they are tied with EHOME with 3 points.

  • MvP.HOT6 MvP.HOT6 had a rough day two, having to face, the main favorites of the group B. With only one series to be played for them, in which they got stomped by Fear and co, they are now sitting in a very uncomfortable last position in group B with just 1 point to their name.

Day three will start in a few hours and it is bound to be a crucial one for the teams involved. By the end of it, the upper and lower bracket final placements are going to become clearer.
