The International 5 kicked off with the Wild Card competition and the games for the last two spots in the main event already brought everything to the table, from completely unexpected drafts, insane team fights, game changing courier kills and a breath-taking base race.
The first two series of day, Vega Squadron versus CDEC Gaming and MvP Phoenix versus Team Archon, were both decided in a last game three and at the end of the first round CDEC Gaming were looking strong and ready for the main event.
In all their games CDEC Gaming were on the verge of losing but showing great mental strength and impressive individual skills from their players they managed to recover each and every time and they are the first to advance to the main event after they defeated MvP.Phoenix in the winner bracket final.
While CDEC Gaming is The Wild Card #1 winning team that advances in the group B, The International 5 dream end up here for Team Archon who lost all their debut match against MvP.Phoenix with a final 2-1 score and after that they got dominated by Vega Squadron in the lower bracket losing the series with a 0-2. Despite some impressive plays shown by Kurok and an amazingly intense base race that brought them the only win today, the American team will watch the rest of the competition from the sidelines.
The last confrontation of the day between Vega Squadron and MvP.Phoenix will decide who’s the second team to advance in the main event and and it remains to be seen who will handle better the pressure of a match with such a high stake.
